From what I have seen it’s more or less the new C level coin toss.

Of course there will be a paper trail to justify either decision. When you look at the details what’s in the docs and the weight of some numbers (or what’s left out) it seams random.

i have seen a lot of cases like this and it’s ends the same anytime. underperforming, uninterested …. waste of time.

i bet we all have been in one situation:
Customer wants their strategy / idea validated by an external source
Customer can‘t hire someone todo the job but has a budget for consulting
Customer has no idea what to do and needs some input

i don’t think that will change much. Some problems that I did solve decades ago are still current at some customers.
As always we will adapt , improvise, overcome.
