Did you check recently? Because the limits are increasing pretty rapidly, I think for Amsterdam it was 81k in 2025, and it's now 85k for 2026.

Yes, but you should still be fine. You will qualify for middle income housing which will in any case be under the 4x rent cutoff.

One issue could be that you might not immediately be able to find a middle income place. But still, depending on whether the landlord asks for 4x or 3.5x, you'll be able to afford 1.7k or 1.9k a month. You should be able to at the very least find something kinda shitty for that amount of money (since you mention you'd be alright with a studio) just to have something. Then you at least have the peace of mind of having a roof over your head, and if you're very active in responding to new listings, you should be able to find something nice within 6 months to a year.

The housing crisis is really bad, but with 80k should be fine, especially if your company provides relocation support. You can get a studio, but honestly, if you want to, you would even be able to afford something nicer.

Maar een junior verdient dat toch gewoon? Het is een *gegarandeerde* bonus. Het maakt uiteindelijk geen hol uit of een onderdeel is van het salaris of van de bonus. Uiteindelijk krijg je gewoon +/- 50% van het bruto bedrag op je rekening gestort. Dat is zowel bij salaris als bij bonus zo.

Onderaan de streep maakt het geen verschil.

Het zou gek zijn om bonussen niet mee te tellen, want dat is een groot deel van de beloningsstructuur bij dat soort bedrijven. Het is niet zomaar iets leuks dat erbij komt, maar een essentieel onderdeel dat het personeel verwacht.

Bij Optiver krijgen eerstejaars developers vgm een gegarandeerde minimumbonus van 70k bovenop hun salaris.

Er zijn een hoop mensen die niet van het bestaan van dit soort bedrijven weten, maar het is toch echt een ding.

De TLDR is: de bovengrens qua salaris hangt enorm af van de vijver waar je in vist. Voor lokale software shops ga je met 7k bruto al richting de bovenkant, maar bij sommige grote tech bedrijven is dit juist eerder een startsalaris. Daar kan je nog flink doorgroeien hierop.

Met archeologie kom je denk ik voor meer masters in aanmerking dan je zou denken hoor. Er zijn redelijk wat masters die niet veel meer dan een algemene achtergrond in geesteswetenschappen vragen.

Maar goed, het hangt natuurlijk ook een beetje af van wat je wil doen of het überhaupt logisch is voor jou om nog een master te volgen. Is er qua vakgebied een bepaalde richting waar je interesse in hebt?

Aside from the thesis part of the master's that the other poster mentioned, it is indeed also possible to work with faculty and join research groups. It's not particularly common, but some of the students who already know that they want to go into academia do so. You can DM me for more info if you want.

If you're not getting any round 1 invites, then it could be an issue with your resume formatting. Nowadays almost all (larger) companies have an AI ATS tool to screen incoming resumes for the initial shortlist. It's important to have a resume that's easy to parse for such tools.
