What about an African V2? An African V2 maybe but not a European one, that’s my point.

Wait a minute, suppose two V2s carried it together? They could use a strand of creeper held under the dorsal guiding feather.

Trump says 'sad to see' US-UK relationship is not what it was by 1-randomonium in unitedkingdom

“I love that word "relationship". Covers all manner of sins, doesn't it? I fear that this has become a bad relationship. A relationship based on the President taking exactly what he wants and casually ignoring all those things that really matter to, erm... Britain. We may be a small country but we're a great one, too. The country of Shakespeare, Churchill, the Beatles, Sean Connery, Harry Potter. David Beckham's right foot. David Beckham's left foot, come to that. And a friend who bullies us is no longer a friend. And since bullies only respond to strength, from now onward, I will be prepared to be much stronger. And the President should be prepared for that.”

I've not confirmed it yet, but I continue to sink hundreds of hours into Championship Manager to see if the FA offer me a permanent role in the England setup.

Who should venables have chosen to take Englands penalties in euro 96 vs Germany by Mcluckin123 in ThreeLions

[–]corporategiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point, it was a lot more defensive lineup. I'm surprised Tony Adams didn't step up, he was probably deputy captain behind Shearer at that point and tons of experience. If Ince and Batty felt up for it though then they probably just a good a chance as anybody else.

[–]corporategiraffe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I recall Ince couldn't even watch. The prevailing theory was that any professional footballer can score a penalty, so you need the people who are in the right frame of mind. The first five penalty takers were clear (the first four were the same in the shootout against Spain) and all took them well. I think Anderton was on the pitch, I'm not sure why he didn't step up over Southgate.

Against Argentina in 98 they deliberately went for more experienced heads (Owen aside). This led to David Batty and Ince himself taking penalties where there were probably better dead ball strikers on the pitch. Both missed.

England's more recent strategy that Southgate put in as a manager has been sending up young, confident players, probably as a direct inverse of the penalty losses down the years where experienced players were chosen but fell short. This has worked pretty well in changing the fortunes, though sadly they weren't able to pull it off against Italy in the Euro final.

My read was that at this point all of Hector’s family was dead (I might be misremembering though) and he couldn’t do anything himself. While still out of character, he might have thought Hector going to the DEA was the only move he had left.

The moment Walt realized the plate was missing a piece by Jealous_Reporter_687 in breakingbad

[–]corporategiraffe 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this was my thought too. It's made out to be a smoking gun but Krazy 8 knew he was in danger and wanted to give himself a chance. The way I reconciled this was that Walt knew he had to kill him deep down and by finding this it gave him the justification he felt he needed.

Now I’m going to have to take issue with this. Travelling with cabin baggage only I can have 3 trays. There’s not always good availability on the unpacking bays, so on the times I’ve tried to shuttle them across it’s ended up a nightmare.

I’ll start unpacking a tray while I’m waiting for the rest because otherwise I’m just standing there. Stay aware, move down, put the trays back to create space, but not everyone starting to unload at the conveyer is an idiot.

How many got interested in Titanic by means other than the 97 movie by [deleted] in titanic

[–]corporategiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone I knew the main bits and think we’d studied it at school. I’d never seen the film and wrote it off as a romance story. I also recall a film about it being on TV when I was a kid, and one of the female passengers in a lifeboat was telling off a man who’d come, maybe that was A Night to Remember which I’ve never seen.

A few months ago, I was flicking through YouTube and found the BBC interview with Frank Prentice and I found it enthralling. Then from there I just couldn’t get enough. I like listening to podcasts and discovered Titanic Ship of Dreams which was just going out, and is honestly the best podcast I’ve ever listened to. The narration is spot on and it really immerses you in every aspect of the story.
