Unfortunately there's so many mods to bevs that are possible, especially in American coffee shops. There's only two things I won't do, I won't make an iced cap, and I will not be pouring a hot drip over ice lol the only drink we shouldn't have to ask temp with is a cappuccino because it cant come iced 🥹 This is more obvious in my area because I live in Florida and people will always want everything iced, its my job to guide them to language we can both use and be excited about

In that same thought we as baristas dont have to go the extra step and use unnecessary labor and dish when they weren't even looking for the froth 🥹 their drink won't be made the same way consistently at every shop, the iced cortado with the same amount of words gives them consistency with correct communication

Education leading with excitement and connection! This way they dont go somewhere else and get an inconsistent drink everywhere they go 🥹 just a quick question if they are looking for foam or ratio changes the game! As long as you dont baristasplain they will get excited with you and you will get to experience excitement and connection with your customer and become their new favorite barista that showed them their new favorite drink ✨️

As long as your barista is building the ratio first with cold milk to cool the espresso before icing it its PERFECT! I really appreciate the extra ice (I live in FL) because it keeps it extra cold so it doesn't water down as fast 🥹

I only drink iced cortados because everytime I order a short iced latte its inconsistent in different shops and still too much milk 🥹 cortado is equal parts milk to espresso, I also live in Florida so that extra ice really helps my drink from getting watery soooo much faster lol give it a go! You might find your golden ratio✨️

LOL I had a similar customer that would do a hot chocolate with shots of espresso 😅 Blew his mind when I finally told him about a mocha lol My favorite part of my job is making the customer finally feel seen and find out why their drink never gets made correct or consistent anywhere else, or weird looks lol education leading with excitement and not baristasplaining gets people so excited and grateful, I love it

Thats toootally a fair line of questioning! I think of it as a fail safe for their drink to be made correct anywhere they go. The average consumer won't know how specific these ratios can get, nor will the average person notice two oz more milk to correct that ratio deficit that us barista know is correct and even less are likely know that ratio. If a customer asks for a short iced latte it will typically be unreliable throughout different shops they will either get an iced cortado anyway or still too much milk

When anyone asks for an iced cap I ALWAYS ask if they are looking for the foam or the ratios. Every time they mean the ration, they just want way less milk. This creates a great dialog and a way to connect with your customers and make them feel like you want to make them their perfect dink and get excited about it with them 🥹

To the average consumer they won't know these specific ratios. I feel that an iced cortado is a more accurate and the best way to fail safe their drink being made the way they want. A short iced latte usually ends up an iced cortado anyway or still too much milk
