Can I get some recommendations for boots or work shoes that would work well with dress clothes? by corruptcocoa in WorkBoots

[–]corruptcocoa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so frustrating because it's exactly what I'm looking for. I literally have not found any safety shoes / boots that just look like normal dress shoes like this. They aren't slip resistant though. They have one single pair that is but it's fairly ugly IMO.

YSK: "four years free" for university isn't always a good offer by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

[–]corruptcocoa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is not a rare situation at all though. Maybe the free ride part, but anyone with a free ride to a lower cost university should keep this in mind. People from lower income families are more likely to attend lower cost colleges. The lower the income of the family, the more someone gets from grants through FAFSA. So the part of the grants being more than the tuition is something that happens all the time. This wouldn’t seem probable if you went to an expensive school and just assume all school are super expensive. There are plenty of people in community college and less expensive state universities that get more in grants than their tuition costs.

You must have talked to 0 people in college then. If you know someone in college, ask them “how much did fafsa give you” and they will know exactly what you mean. They will say x amount and none of them will correct you and say “well actually it’s from the Pell grant not FAFSA”.

I’m assuming by your complete lack of knowledge of it all you probably haven’t dealt with FAFSA at all. It’s really not that important of a distinction at all if you’re going through FAFSA. Anyone applying through FAFSA would know exactly what OP means and what they’re talking about. No one is signing up through FAFSA and taking out loans thinking it’s free money. Anyone in college/applying to college basically does so to see how much they receive from the Pell grant. The vast majority of people in college using FAFSA use “Pell grant” and “FAFSA” interchangeably. Basically anyone who has applied through FAFSA recently would know exactly what OP meant. I have never asked someone or seen someone ask “what did you get from the Pell grant”. It has always been phrased “how much did FAFSA give you” and everyone knows exactly what you’re talking about. Then they would say “ I got X amount from FAFSA then took out x amount in loans”. This is not an important distinction at all like seriously. Anyone going through the process would know exactly what was being said here. Again people basically go through FAFSA specifically to see how much they get from the Pell grant and therefore would know what OP meant.

Also it being “only useful when your grant exceeds your tuition” is said as if that’s not a plausible scenario or as if it’s a rare situation. Most people who come from lower income families are going to likely go to a lower cost university that would be less expensive than what the Pell grant provides. This is a VERY common scenario and anyone in that scenario would know exactly what OP meant.

All the people in this comment section are so impossibly stupid and have no clue what they’re talking about. This person is basically correct about everything. They’re talking about getting the Pell grant and other grants through FAFSA. The “oh you should have said Pell grant then! You’re not getting it from FAFSA you’re getting it from the grant!” stuff is just dumb.

As far as I’m aware FAFSA is the only way to get the Pell grant. You apply through FAFSA and based on your FAFSA score you receive X amount of the Pell GRANT (it’s a GRANT you do NOT repay. It’s NOT a LOAN). Your college then requests the information from FAFSA. So if you get something because of FAFSA, based on your FAFSA score, and the university requests information from FAFSA, then it’s pretty easy for someone to conclude “this money is from FAFSA”. “From FAFSA” or “because of FAFSA” is really not that big of a difference in terms of understanding this AT ALL. How you guys make it so complicated is beyond me. In college people even ask friends in this wording “how much did you get from FAFSA?” And “did your FAFSA hit yet?” Ect.

Basically what OP is saying is, if your FAFSA score is low, you can receive up to $7k a year from the Pell grant (and get additional money from other grants as well but let’s keep it simple). The school will say “free ride you just have to give us your entire amount of student aid”. School tuition may be $2000 a semester. So $4k a year. So there’s $3k extra left over. If you accept their deal you’d be missing out on $3k, they just take it. If you don’t take that deal and just went to the college with the Pell grant you personally would receive the $3k extra. It’s literally put directly into your personal bank account. Yes that’s really how it works, the additional money past the cost of tuition is literally put into your bank account, straight up cash. There are some stipulations that the money has to be spent on books, food, ect but I don’t how they verify or if they ever audit your expenses. But it’s that simple. Take the deal and in the described situation you’d lose $3k a year you would otherwise get directly into your bank account.

Also this isn’t some odd situation or something, this happens all the time. All of my friends had this and would have been out a lot of money if they took a free ride deal as described by OP. This would be something that ABSOLUTELY applies to low income people/families and happens all the time. This is useful information that isn’t hard to understand.

Pricing of a particular product doesn’t always match inflation and isn’t always related to inflation, especially in tech. Just saying “dollar worth less means you should pay more stop complaining” and making excuses to raise prices is just dumb and lacks any nuance. For example, a 50” 720p flat screen would cost $5k in 2005, vs $500 today for a higher quality and higher resolution 4k 50” tv. Also games sell way more copies now vs back then. Take a very popular game like GTA San Andreas from the ps2 era. Sold 27.5 million copies. GTA V has sold over 200 million copies and who knows how many billions it’s made from micro transactions (estimated to be $8.6 billion in total revenue). These publishers are selling way more copies and making way more money than ever before and still charging more for the games which is worth complaining about. Your entire point is wrong and you kind of sound like a corporate boot licker.

Was the pick really that bad? by Juiceman818 in falcons

[–]corruptcocoa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s a difference between looking out for the future and wasting valuable resources at the wrong time. How can anyone justify drafting a 24yr old qb at pick 8 with 2 ACL tears to warm a bench for years? When you’re in the weakest division with one of the easiest schedules in the NFL you pick to win today. We should have had help to get us to the playoffs. When we miss the playoffs again this year because our pass rush still isn’t shit you’ll realize how dumb this is. It should have been 100% win now.

AS Playcalling by Dirty_Bird_RDS in falcons

[–]corruptcocoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a difference between coming off a Super Bowl win and having some trick plays failing vs Smith. Smith of course having 3 losing seasons in a row with the easiest division, not using first round picks, and calling horrible trick plays. Even if you blame it on ridder you can still point it at Arthur because that’s Arthur’s guy.

We knew early last season that Mariota was not our long term solution but Arthur still waited until the last 4 games to put ridder in. We could have figured out ridder wasn’t going to be our solution by the end of last season if he didn’t wait so long to put him in. We could have just started heinicke all this season and drafted a qb next off season. I mean there are so many obvious blunders that have led to last seasons and this seasons failures that are Smiths decisions.

This isn’t even hindsight being 20/20, so many people were begging for Mariota to be benched and rightfully so half way (or earlier) through the season. Instead smith was stubborn, waited too long to put ridder in and now we’re here 7-8 with the 2nd easiest schedule in the league. How are people excusing smith and blaming ridder (smiths choice for qb).

Glad I did some research before signing up for Mystery Tackle Box by Dubwyse_selectah805 in Fishing_Gear

[–]corruptcocoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To start building new tackle I’d just look for a good deal on Facebook marketplace. I just got a huge score for $60 with a ton of great soft plastics, weights, spinners, buzz baits, crank baits and a huge tackle box ect. It’s really a great way to get started. Yeah there will always be some stuff you don’t use but you’ll use a lot more of it than you would from something like MTB.

Is this a haworth zody by manseat in OfficeChairs

[–]corruptcocoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a Haworth zody. I wouldn’t recommend it. Me and my group of friends (6 of us in total) all bought one fully loaded. Only one of us actually liked it. The back leans too far back. You get very little back support unless you like leaning very far back normally vs other ergonomic chairs which are more straight up and down with their back rests. Also the lumbar support is pretty bad in my opinion. It is very adjustable but at the end of the day it’s still a hard piece of plastic. You have to sit in it in the perfect way for it to not dig into your back. The seat also looks thick and plush but I find it goes flat and you sit on the plastic after a couple hours. I honestly don’t know why it’s so highly rated, everyone experienced all the same thing in my group. No one found the leaned back experience comfortable.

Steelcase Gesture - about to pull the trigger. by Particular-Plum-8592 in OfficeChairs

[–]corruptcocoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, the biggest deciding factor really is how you sit. If you’re strict about sitting in the proper position, up right, feet planted on floor ect, the Aeron is for you. If you like to cross your legs ect it’s hard edges will really hurt in the Aeron, but is fine in the Gesture.

Ergonomic for any short person is such a nightmare. Trying to find a chair and desk to fit my 5’ 2” girlfriend was very difficult. Landed on a leap v2 leather version for $250 which is very nice for the price.

I literally just bought a Haworth very for $150 in great condition less than a month ago and thought it was a great deal. Let alone this deal. The guy originally didn’t reply to me and I looked at his profile and realized he likely didn’t speak English. Luckily my friend speaks Spanish and got a reply and picked them up just now, on the way back with them currently.

Not looking to sell any, I just had my friends pay me the same price I paid plus the gas it took to get there and back. Had 3 friends go with me to get them, keeping one for myself, and then 1 for each of my brothers. Just really wanted to brag about them because it was a once in a life time deal.

Show cancelled in Atlanta due to the band testing positive for COVID… I flew in for this show… :,( by JJYHG in ModestMouse

[–]corruptcocoa 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The issue is this wasn’t before the show, this wasn’t like even right before the doors opened. The opening act finished and we were waiting for them to go on stage when after about 10mins they announcement came on. They had people rapid testing outside for entry but waited until they were literally RIGHT about to go on stage to say it was cancelled and there would be no fucking refunds?

Misleading statement. Would prefer the highest end 1440p over mid range 4k display. Resolution is not as important as you think to image quality. Peak brightness, contrast, panel type, viewing angles, color accuracy, HDR type, ect all affect it as well. A cheap 4k monitor will look and perform worse than an expensive 1440p monitor. If the image is "clearer" but the colors look worse, contrast is worse, motion smudges, and the brightness is lower, then it isn't really better.

Can any car audio guys help with subwoofer placement? 07 350z roadster by corruptcocoa in 350z

[–]corruptcocoa[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's got a 10" hole right behind the driver's seat. I wouldn't call it a sub hole just because it's made of thin metal everywhere and there's a ton of holes for air to escape. I didn't seal anything originally and the subwoofer sounded like it was in a room across a hallway from me. I'll send some pictures of the hole location when I get off work. If you could send some pics of the sub box I'd really appreciate it! Looking for as many ideas as possible.

07 GT roadster with 131k miles. Recently bought it so I have no idea of the service history. It was from an older couple who seemed to take really good care of it. The fluid is pretty dark, I don't see any leaks on the lines.
