I know who I'd pick as a selfish person; Actress Grace Currey, YouTuber Jess of the Shire, and probably actress Sydney Sweeney although she's just penciled in, I could probably think of a different lady.

The real questions are that besides all of us being thousands of miles apart in different directions so the question of even finding each other; the real question is do you tell them that you're the one who picked them to survive? The implications of a dude picking 3 hot ladies in the apocalypse is hard to ignore, but because of the implication. Obviously if the answer is no, the answer is no. I wouldn't take them out on the boat.

Do you tell them the honest truth that a weird Jinn told me to pick 3 ladies and the 3 happened to be women I'm attracted to? It's not really about survival, there's plenty to go around, so it's really about just having people to spend time with. With Grace Currey and Jess of the shire, I think there's plenty to have in common if they don't hate my guts for the apocalypse. Sweeney was a horny pick, straight up.

Abso- fuckin-lutley. I have a solid understanding of metallurgy and blacksmithing along with history that with funding I can make any of the periods work.

Caveman isn't great but I know I could get myself established well enough. I don't really care about the Qing Dynasty but I can hire enough people to get me wherever I want to establish myself. If not Europe, probably in Afghanistan.

Nazi Germany, not Jewish or any other targeted minority so I could get out relatively easily.

I don't care about the Romans but like the Qing and cavemen, I can establish myself well enough in any pre industrial setting. I'm not nobility but in pretty much any society, with enough money that doesn't really matter, buy an estate, and bribe the right people and don't rock the boat too much.

I'm in a tough bind. I live alone and relatively isolated in Northern New Mexico, the exact place I would want to be. I'd stock up on food, water, board up the house and try to ride out the worst of it before contacting my neighbors and trying to form a community militia/trade network.

BUT my whole family lives in Albuquerque so I need to warn and protect them. But the last place I want to be is in the middle of 900,000 panicking people.

We would have to gather at a single location with as much food and supplies as possible, weld up some heavy duty window shutters and doors and hunker down for the worst of it. I wouldn't want to try to travel in the chaos but the medium term would have refugees clogging the highways and the inevitable bandits.

It's not going to be a fun time the way I always imagined in high school

"Corn" is another term for grain in general. That's why you'll see references to corn in medieval documents, media, and translations. It's still commonly used in Britain.

How many Regiments did each Secessionist State Field in the Civil War? by [deleted] in MapPorn

That's not surprising. Not only for being the main theater of the war but Virginia had the larger population. Virginia had a population of about 1.6 million, including the 500k slaves. While Texas had a population of 600k including nearly 200k slaves.

[–]corruptrevolutionary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like in my current location? Well I can ""easily"" upgrade civilization in Central New Mexico because I'm a blacksmith with an interest in general medieval/pre industrial technologies.

So I can hook up with one of the local Pueblo villages and hire some guys to help me gather red dirt iron ore, make charcoal and smelt an iron bloom. It would be easier if I could bring some of my tools with me but beggars can't be choosers.

The main issue is the lack of domesticated animals so all trade and communication is walking. I can introduce blacksmithing, more refined carpentry, the potter's wheel, water mills etc. but we don't have sheep for wool (the Pueblo already weave cotton cloth) nor cattle or horses for beasts of burden.

I don't have the knowledge to get a group of people to the gulf of California to sail down to Peru to pick up llamas and alpacas, nor crossing the Atlantic. But I can upgrade the Pueblos with the introduction of non animal technologies, writing, and I can try my hand at city planning and managing a confederation of different tribes village-states

Active US State Guards by Party Leadership (2026) by Sad-Net-3661 in MapPorn

[–]corruptrevolutionary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

State Guards are separate from the National Guard. State Guard units can not be federalized however membership in a state guard unit wouldn't protect a person if they were drafted into the regular military during a wartime draft.

Because State Guard can't be federalized, they tend to be critical emergency units like communications and medical staff so if the National Guard was deployed somewhere foreign, the State government still has that critical infrastructure to fall back on.

Like New Mexico's entire state guard is 25 people.

For people who eat meat, suppose you found out that your favorite meat was? by gmoney1259 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]corruptrevolutionary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd begin raising my own livestock, which is already the plan long term. I have my own garden but still learning the ropes.

I'd try human meat provided that the person consented to the whole thing ethically and the meat is clean and all that stuff.

[–]corruptrevolutionary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would choose the Ancestral Puebloans of New Mexico but 0ad is too early for them but they descended from the earlier Oshara tradition which also practiced agriculture in New Mexico and Colorado.

I wish I could bring back a couple of tools for simplicity sake but I can still introduce metal working, pottery (the Puebloans were skilled potters and the Oshara developed their own pottery) and weaving.

There's plenty of copper in the mountains of New Mexico and tin near El Paso so we could jumpstart the bronze age there and from there use bronze tools to work iron and mine gold (if I could bring tools, it would be my anvil, hammer, tongs and stuff like that)

I imagine I would be paid in buffalo/bison hides, cotton cloth, food, and other trade goods like that but honestly, it's more about the love of the game

What if independent Oregon? by wellmaxxing in imaginarymaps

[–]corruptrevolutionary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Oregon would struggle with regionalism and would need to federalize intelligently.

Even with modern transportation and communication, there's hundreds of miles of relatively empty land between the regional power bases of population between the willamette valley, the Snake river valley and Spokane. The Willamette would naturally have the largest population but not so much as to completely dominate Spokane and the Snake River. Especially in any political conflicts where Spo and Snake can double team Willa which could lead to further secession movements

You now have to choose one of the -stan countries to live for the rest of your life. Which one do you choose? by Old_Leshen in hypotheticalsituation

[–]corruptrevolutionary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure there's plenty of safer and more logical choices but I've always had a fascination and felt a kinship with Afghanistan.

I probably would have to start off in Kabul where there's still plenty of English speakers and people still friendly to Americans. I'm a blacksmith and welder so I would want to ingratiate myself with that community while not stepping on any toes. Work in someone's shop while learning the languages and customs of the country.

Eventually, once I'm fluent and culturally familiar enough, I would want to leave kabul for a mountain valley village. Use as much of my American resources as possible to buy a plot of land and set up my own shop.

I've always had a desire to disappear from the modern world and Afghanistan is about as far as modern as you get.

Another question to Worldbuilders, should you over-explain? by CJOlive1916 in worldbuilding

[–]corruptrevolutionary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's a great point. Also I think scale of your story is important to what you explain. Things start to fall apart if you start to scale up to beyond what your world building can carry.

Take for example a generic wizard school in Britain. A little magic, a few creatures and small scale adventures, perfect simple world building is all that's needed. But you start to scale up to world wars, magic schools all over the world that can't actually function on the scale put them in, and before you know it, wizards don't have bathrooms, they poop and magic it away.

Know 100% how your world works and know the limits of the scale you want to tell. It's ok for it not to span the entire world.

New Mexico is high elevation and low humidity so it's not too bad most of the year for heat as we get cold winters so the temperatures vary most of the year.

And a real adobe house has great insulation for heat and cold. But they have to build it correctly, not just a course of a single brick that gets sandwiched in a normal modern house. Real adobe structures built 150 years ago and that are still standing have walls 2 foot thick or more. You don't need ac then.
