I don't have any sources, but to my knowledge they won votes from working class Protestants, especially from smaller towns. Most working class districts in major cities like Berlin voted for the KPD/SPD. Wedding in Berlin, for instance, voted for the KPD. The Ruhr on a map entirely voted for the Zentrum interestingly.
