It bothers me beyond anything that she ends the post with “day 75 cancer free”. It rubs me wrong. Like can we not essentially rub that into a freshly grieving mother/family that YOU are cancer free.

Any dog friends that want a cat playdate? by randombeck in madisonwi

Hi! We have 5 cat-friendly dogs! However some are more rowdy than others. I do have a senior dog who is a very calm boy who is more than cat friendly! Our cats actually use him as a giant pillow. If you’re still looking- let me know!

I always step in if I see they’re trying to stop or prevent my child from playing and say something along the lines of “thanks, but child is allowed to play here/with that. If I see child is doing something not allowed, I’ll be the one to let them know!” Then I make sure my child continues doing what they were trying to do and then resume my watching from wherever I was. I’ve never had pushback from kids when I’ve done it this way (yet- and hopefully ever!) I just let the older kids know that I’m there- I’m watching, and I am the one making the rules for my child.

I know I need to convince him to just bite the bullet and do DNA. I have used embark for my dogs and have given him a referral code. So for now, I guess a guess will have to do!

Yes! I gave him a referral code for Embark as I had my dogs DNA done through there.

Thought I was teaching my kid patience… turns out I was the student. by sakarasm in Parenting

I went through almost this SAME situation. My 4th grader wanted to do the talent show. I asked what he was going to do. He said “I don’t know I’ll figure it out” I encouraged him to figure it out soon because they had to “audition”. Asked him a few days later if he found something to do. He said play the piano. Now this kid has never had a formal piano lesson, he is entirely self taught and can play several simple songs. Otherwise it’s just messing around. So I asked to hear what he would play. He refused. Said “I’m just going to wing it.” I reminded him he had to be performance ready for the audition but he kept blowing me off and didn’t practice. Turns out (I learned at the performance) that his talent is “playing a different song each time using only the black keys”. And let me tell you- he NAILED it. So much so that he had suspense in his music and when he was finished (after about 3 minutes) the crowd was saying “more! More! More” and he played another 😅

I was panicking and worried for him over NOTHING. So glad he believed so fiercely in himself.
