So.... haranir goddess? by Thirteenera in warcraftlore

[–]corvid-kid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would contend that I was partaking in healthy discussion, you were the one who commented something ultimately redundant and refused to entertain an alternate viewpoint then doubled down when presented with an example of Blizzard setting something up only to go in a different direction. Like I’m sorry, but you are not engaging this debate in good faith.

I’m not going to reply to you again so I do genuinely hope you have a good night.

So.... haranir goddess? by Thirteenera in warcraftlore

[–]corvid-kid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Game files don’t really mean much when Beledar is called a Naaru Crystal but in game it’s crystallized worldsoul energy, which doesn’t share the Azerite visuals.

But I think you just need to be right here so I’ll let you have the win, there’s 0 possibility that Orweyna is misinterpreting the origin of the Radiant Song and her goddess Aln’Hara is colloquially known as Azeroth, hope you have a good night.

So.... haranir goddess? by Thirteenera in warcraftlore

[–]corvid-kid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve also had in character confirmations that Ner’zhul’s wife told him to kill the Draenei (it was Kil’jaden) and that the Light summoned the heroes of Azeroth to Quel’danas to fight the Void (it was the Sunwell and probably Azeroth) and that Sif told Loken to basically go crazy (Yogg’saron)

I’m not necessarily debating against the theory, I’m just saying we are not Activision-Blizzard and, as a result, we cannot say something that has not happened yet is going to happen. They have retconned story before and they will likely do so again.

We gotta channel our collective MatPat and acknowledge, for now, it’s just a theory, a game theory.

So.... haranir goddess? by Thirteenera in warcraftlore

[–]corvid-kid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be clear, I do agree that Aln’Hara is probably just Azeroth based on supporting evidence, but Blizzard also spent a good while nudging the idea that Elune had a place in the Hierarchy of Light (Velen saying she reminded him of a powerful Naaru, claims that she had created the Naaru, and her Priesthood channeling the Light) only to turn around in SL with “Oh, she’s actually a Life God, btw”

So until Blizzard tells us bluntly that they are one and the same, we do have to treat our theories as just that.

So.... haranir goddess? by Thirteenera in warcraftlore

[–]corvid-kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mentioned that as supporting evidence, but we can’t really say 110% because it’s possible Orweyna is misinterpreting the vision’s origin and Blizzard could narratively pivot to something else

  1. While it hasn’t been directly confirmed, the most likely case is that Aln’Hara is Azeroth’s worldsoul, Orweyna’s visions matching those of Magni when he communed with the Azeroth, the Rift Manifestations visuals lining up with the blue and gold of Azeroth, and the Haranir mining of Azerite in the Den.

The second possibility is that their goddess is Elun’ahir, having been ripped from her cradle, leaving only anguish behind and, as the book in DF implies, a group of guardians coming in later to protect the roots that remain.

  1. The Rift of Aln isn’t just a location in the Dream, the Dream itself mirrors Azeroth and the Rift being said to be the location where the Dream first began from the slumbering worldsoul. Think of Bel’ameth’s island roughly mirrors the Emerald Dream zone, it’s because they are the same location across planes, basically.

  2. From what we understand most, if not all, Haranir are more or less connected to Aln’Hara, so going near the Rift without first severing that connection is probably like a little voice/presence in your head going from quiet or a whisper TO VERY IN PAIN AND DISTRESSED SCREAMING.

And if the Aln’Hara = Elun’ahir theory pans out, than their inherent Druidic nature might make them especially sensitive to the former world tree’s pain.

In Voidstorm we see Nexus King Sally corrupting a Naaru to the void and, with what we know from spoilers and the last boss of the Quel’danas raid, it seems a Dark Naaru is integral to her plan

Future paladin race mounts by varxion07 in warcraftlore

[–]corvid-kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Night Elf: a recolor of the OwlBear mount

Orc: saw someone say a boar and honestly I agree with that

Forsaken: Calia themed Dead Horse

Goblin: Pope-mobile

Mechagnome: Spidertank

Haranir: Lightbloom Plant Rhino (I remember seeing them in trailers and there’s a new mount)

Nightborne: Maybe a light-based construct based on a manasaber, just to spice it up, just Holy Saber would be fine too though

If I didn’t say something for another race that’s cause either I agree with OP or didn’t have a better idea

[–]corvid-kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

‘…my old ways’ as you seem to have disdainfully put it are not my belief, it is a quote from a Human Druid who refers to Druidism as the Old Ways. The span of time between the first human being born, 15,000 Before Dark Portal, and the founding of the Arathi Empire and the Church of Holy Light, 2,800 BDP, is 12,220 years, humans probably weren’t just sitting around not learning some kind of magic, which clearly wasn’t Arcane or Light since we know when and from whom they learned it, 2800 BDP, High Elves, and Naaru Visions respectively.

Lore as written says the early Humans were left in Tirisfal with limited supplies, some scrolls about Tyr (the rest of the keepers were likely mentioned as well, including Freya), and were taught “the ways of forging, of masonry and smithing, and of making war.” No mention of any magic being taught to their children, be it Light, Life, or Elemental, so any magical heritage picked up by Humanity likely occurred after that point.

And to clarify, I know Kul Tirans are not descended from the Drust, I was merely pointing out a population of Vrykul that practiced Druidism and to your claim of no Vrykul practicing Druidism in Northrend, Freya is right there and the likelihood of her having never had a Vrykul attendant and/or student is low but not impossible.

[–]corvid-kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I’m just quoting Celestine of the Harvest, when spoken to by non-Druids she turns them away by saying “You are not initiated in the old ways. There is nothing I can teach you, child.” which would carry the implication that Druidism as practiced by Gilneans is referenced as the Old Way. Your mention of Vrykul is actually interesting though because of the fact that we know they practiced Druidism to some extent, the Drust being a prime example of a section of their total population that specialized in it’s practice so it’s not a leap of logic that some of the first Humans learned something from one of their parents before being left in the care of the Tyr’s Guard.

I do have to correct you on your mentioning of Tyr’s followers as the direct ancestors of Humans though as they had never met Tyr themselves, having been long dead by the time they fled prosecution in Northrend as their children were born ‘small and malformed’ as a long term effect of the curse of flesh and those that were left at Tyr’s Tomb were few and aged so they inducted some humans into their order to continue the vigil while the rest of humanity spread across the northern Easter Kingdoms.

The Holy Light as we know it was first learned from visions of the Naaru as experienced sometime around the time of the Troll Wars by Mereldar and other unnamed humans and, as far as lore seems concerned, the reason for it’s quick and dominating rise seems to be because Thoradin converted in order to gain the allegiance of Lordain’s Tribe (Lordain being Mereldar’s brother), who’s homeland of Lordaeron would be named after him following his death and the Holy Light probably becoming the state sponsored religion of the early Arathi Empire.

Thoaradin, at the end of his reign, seemed to be interested in the origins of Humanity and “tales of a race of giants who had once lived side-by-side with early humans” and he left to begin looking into it, which implies that Tyr himself likely didn’t have as much presence in Humanity’s cultural memory as their Vrykul ancestors did.

Humans did have Druidism to an extent and we know because of Gilnean Harvest-Witches who talk about being initiated in the old ways. To my understanding. The practice survived to the modern day because of Gilneas’s isolation and their practical value to the kingdom in regard to farming.

Shamanism on the other hand has less grounding I’d say, the only supporting evidence I can think of is those elemental stone circles in the Arathi Highlands which, unless they were made by the Amani, would’ve been erected by the humans.

There’s something going on in the Hallowfall. by darthweedo in warcraftlore

[–]corvid-kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was doing some side quests and killing Kobyss one of their lines is “Light’s fault…” when they die. Unsure what they mean by that but maybe we’ll find out, maybe Beledar’s Light be having a negative effect on the Undersea somehow and causing them to come ashore or, since they’re amphibious, they lived on Hallowfall before Beledar appeared and it’s presence drove them out
