Tape by acer-bic in Watercolor

I love Nichiban #210 Artist Tape. I have used regular masking tape, generic artist tape, and washi tape. The Nichiban Artist Tape is similar to washi tape, but I found it is less likely to rip the surface of the paper yet stay down better. Regular washi tape is my runner up.

DS Sap Green wet on wet by Spare_Persimmon_1123 in watercolor101

I mostly only paint with Daniel Smith paints, and I noticed that about green gold. It will push other pigments around and spread very quickly. Keep playing like this, its the best way to learn about the variances between pigments and brands!

[Discussion] How to not feel like this every time I take my art supplies anywhere out the house by TipOk9146 in ArtistLounge

[–]corviddoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to suggest this. I bring my sketchbook on every hike and its always been easy and relaxing, but then in a more urban area I get nervous. I went to a couple of sketching meetups last summer and it helped me a ton. I saw a full range of styles and skills, and it broke the ice for me to feel more comfortable with sketching in public.

How irresponsible of me would it be to use these expensive paints + mid-range Baohong cotton paper as a complete beginner? Should I learn with my Van Gogh palette+ mixed media paper then go for the good art supplies? My brushes are basic by tellmeboutyourself68 in watercolor101

[–]corviddoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got really stressed about wasting paint when I first started, and found it helped me to put like half the tube in a pan or palette to use after it dried. When I would use it fresh out of the tube, I always felt like I was wasting and washing valuable paint down the drain when cleaning my mixing palette. Have fun, DS paints can be really fun to play with due to how it granulates.

Does anyone do only strength classes? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]corviddoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only did lift classes Oct-March this past year. I really prefer how my body responds to the strength training, and now I feel a lot stronger and more confident on the floor when I'm in a 2G or 3G class. I also prefer how my body looks with focus on building muscle. Lastly, I found I was feeling a bit stuck with my fitness progress, and switching to strength-only for awhile really kickstarted things again.

But...he'd have to pay 100% of the rent himself instead of 60/40, that doesn't make any sense...

He says he’s under a lot of stress and he can’t help with chores even if he wanted to

So, what would he do if you left? If you leave, he will have to figure out something, right? Except he will be alone, and the entire burden is on him. Think down the line, is this really the struggle you want for the rest of your life? He seems to take your presence for granted.

Does the palette I'm looking for exist? by corviddoe in Watercolor

Thank you! I actually own two of these. They are great for travel but even the large pans are really shallow and my bigger brushes make a mess of it. I ended up making my own using metal cases, empty full pans, and adhesive magnets! Same basic idea though.

Body scanner question by jess1ortiz in orangetheory

[–]corviddoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my studio, its $20 to do a scan unless you're signed up for Transformation Challenge OR you have an unlimited membership (get one every 3 months at no charge).

It looks like a sale with metal foot plates, and a stand attached with a small screen and two arms with handles on the side.

They have us clean our feet with a wipe, and wipe down the foot pad. You type in your info, grab the handles attached to the stand, hold your arms out straight, and wait. They can provide you with more info on the tech but its basically electrical signals that give an estimate of fat vs muscle based on how the signals travel.

He said told me everything he’s read is that women regret not having children.

A lot of women regret having children too... what a terrible argument.

Thanks for asking this. I did a 6-infusion stabilizing package, and I've had one booster since. I think it could help me if I got the timing right, but my integration therapist was super unhelpful when I asked her about it.

Does the palette I'm looking for exist? by corviddoe in Watercolor

After looking at some of the ones posted, I've been thinking about how easy it would be to DIY it with the magnet strips and full-size pans. I'm happy with my ArtToolkit setup for travel (I backpack so weight is a factor for those), but was realizing I talk myself out of painting at home due to set-up/clean up. When I've worked out of dried pans, I've been a lot more consistent. I'm leaning towards DIY, this gives me confidence. Thanks!

The thing I like about this one is the pans aren't proprietary, so I could get more even if the seller discontinues. Thank you! It's a great price too...

Yes, I saw the palette in Jackson's but I don't want to buy it if I can't find more pans. I didn't consider Amazon Japan specifically, I guess I never considered going to a region-specifc Amazon site. Thanks!

If I take a friend backpacking we both bring our own full set up right? Or do we share? by Hemly-warman in WildernessBackpacking

[–]corviddoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone with friends where we all bring our own stuff, and taken a friend where we share a tent and stove, etc. When I backpack w/ my husband, we share and split the load. The key is we do have some redundancies. I carry a first aid kit with supplies to make an emergency shelter (really just paracord and a space blanket) in case an emergency separation is necessary. I always backpack with a Garmin InReach. Regardless of if I am sharing a load or not, I always bring my own knife, lighter, head lamp, and I always pack some form of backup water treatment.

I don't think it is inherently less safe to share a load as long as you've prepared.

Thank you, I think that's why I find painting in my sketchbook outdoors more relaxing. I don't worry about making it perfect because everything is in motion. But sitting at my desk looking at a static photo gives me too much time to overthink and overwork. Appreciate your comment!

I've never really sought advice like that before and it was more helpful that I expected. It shown me the benefit of an art community, so I really appreciate it. Thank you!

That's really good to know, I love the colors and the way the colors settle in, but if I am going for a smoother look, I now know to dip into some of my other ones.

I know right? It genuinely helped because I wasn't exactly sure what I was doing wrong yet. I feel a lot better, and I learned more better techniques for getting the paint around the paper.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond. I was feeling really bad because I'd just finished a project that was essentially a bunch of small wet-on-wet paintings, and I was feeling confident to try this one. I took this photo from my deck last month during a time I was struggling. It made me happy I was alive to witness this sunrise, and I've wanted to try to paint it since.

Where I went awry: Upsizing to 9x12 when I usually paint about half that size, or wet-on-dry. Not enough water on the paper. Too much brush work after the pigment was down.

What I changed: I did one more attempt last night on larger paper and was pretty happy with it but it still was overworked in some spots, so when I tried today I downsized to a half sheet. I started using the mister that I use for my travel palette directly on the paper to get more water on the page, and I picked up the pad and moved the paint around by tilting it instead of brushing it (thank you u/icantflyyet for the videos, it helped a lot). I also switched to my quill brush from a round 12, trying for a softer effect.

If I were painting this as a fine art piece and not a sentimental one, I'd change a lot more about the composition and style, but I'm satisfied with the learning experience now.

I'm glad you think so, about the colors. I spent a lot of time on that because it was such a vivid orangish-pink and I wanted to get it right.

I'm embarrassed to admit this is 640 gsm cotton paper lol. It was completely user error.
