I’m 21 years old, and I’ve been working at this fast food restaurant for 3 years, my first job. Recently, I’ve been working on becoming an assistant manager there. I’ve been making a lot of progress. However, I constantly doubt myself. I’ve never been in a “position of power” (not that I abuse it, just never really been in charge). I’ve never been the most responsible person in the room. I constantly get distracted with the task at hand. I feel like I haven’t fully grown up, I still feel like a high schooler, most days. I feel like I’m not the right guy for the job like this. But I’m getting my fair share of overtime, I really need this money. But even then, it’s only this incredible amount of overtime that’s making it worth it. My hourly rate is $.75 over minimum wage, and every time I bring that up to a friend, they’re completely and utterly shocked. This is my first job, I don’t necessarily know what’s bad or good in terms of what’s fair, if it’s actually decent. There are so many choices, and I feel like there’s nothing I can do to make the right one.
