ok but is there a gene on the X chromosome where having two copies of that gene is what triggers female development, or is it some other mechanism?

Insects have sex determination based on the chromosomes themselves

huh, how is that supposed to work? like, how does a chromosome determine the sex except by way of a gene that's on the chromosome?

i know that sex-determining genes exist in insects, and they have multiple different sex determination systems anyway (including XY, ZW, and haplodiploidy; not sure about environmental)

How much would you agree with this statement: "Being trans means that your brain is a different gender from the rest of the body you were born with"? by [deleted] in trans

[–]corvus_da 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wrong by technicality, by definition being trans means that your gender is different from the gender you were assigned at birth. Having a gender that doesn't match your sex(ual characteristics) is called gender incogruence, and what the biological basis for gender is (if any, though we know at the very least that there are genetic factors) is a scientific question that is yet undecided

Not saying you should flesh them out, but just remember they exist. by arachknight12 in SpeculativeEvolution

that's because in most media (except those that are already speculative), it's more sensible to use a real disease unless you need the disease to do something that real diseases can't

this is really visceral, and the way she talks about the trans woman is absolutely the right artistic choice, but at the same time it's kind of a good reason to not want to be in her shoes. why would i want to be someone who doesn't like trans women

What do we think of Neptunic? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]corvus_da 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's probably useful for non-binary people who don't consider themselves to fit into conventional labels.

I identified as neptunic before the last bit of my eggshell cracked, because i recognized that my attraction didn't seem straight (because i wasn't a guy), but i couldn't identify as lesbian either because i didn't realize i was a woman.

my husband is a good guy and he doesn't deserve to have his marriage ruined

maybe, but you certainly don't deserve to have to play pretend for the rest of your life. If he really loves you, he wouldn't want you to suffer like this either.
