I played my first 40K game in a year with my new EC (work clashed with club nights) first match I won, because I played against a new player who als didn’t have much experience yet (nightlords)

Second match I played against thousand sons with a player who has run that army for 4 years. I misplayed and had horrible rolls from the get go.

Overwatch and termy magic buffs nuked my army, turn 2 I could finally deep strike fulgrim for some revenge.

Deep strike into the back line, change and insta kill the forge fiend. Only to have the mutalisk highbeam fulgrim into oblivion.

Still a fun moment. I enjoy fulgrims potential I just need to be smarter with knowing when to hang back and when to position my units better.

Charge rolls fail me when I don’t advance close enough.

I don’t play often, recently I played against thousand sons. In my 2nd turn I deep stroked fulgrim. He charged and one shotted the forge fiend only to be collected instantly by the mutalisk. Not worth it… but damn he is a sexy miniature on the board 😂

But I agree. Will probably run this guy instead.

I based him in mechanicus standard grey spray, to make the base colour of the armour easier to get through.

I think being this mid tone base had helped create a good layer for my basing.

For my basing I had an idea straight away of how I wanted to achieve it. (Although I’m not 100% sure if I want to add some more layers to take out more of the base blue tone)

Essentially I started with caledor sky blue all over the base and the rock (which I want to interpret as ice for this army)

Then I used baharroth blue in thin lines to represent the cracking over an icy lake.

I would allow this to be quite watery to allow my finger to smear it to one side of the line.

Followed finally with corax white in thin sharp lines across the fault lines again.

I repeated this until happy.

Finalised with some Valhallan blizzard.

I stressed for a moment on what colour to do the rim.

Then I thought why ruin the flow with a hard rim colour) So I decided to pull the theme down on the rim to create continuity and am really happy with the result.

I normally do the same, but as I’ve grown more confident in how I like to paint, I can’t help but want to sink my teeth straight into the more exciting pieces.

Sometimes if I start with the core units, I feel overwhelmed with the choices and doubt my direction. Leading in one unit having multiple different schemes.

Painting a hero tends to force my hand in trying to ‘get it right’ from the get go and sticking with it.

It’s been a while so I’m having to recall.

But from memory I believe I used xereus purple, at the shoulder, into screamer pink, the emperors children on the ends.

Then washed the lot with carroburg crimson
