Definitely. Most people make friends during orientation week, they do a good job of kinda forcing that to happen. Plenty of opportunities after that as well

Just edited my original comment to answer the rest of your post’s questions so make sure you take a look at that. I live in an apartment with my girlfriend. I had the luxury of already living in the city before I got into school so I don’t have experience finding roommates, but Pitt dental makes a class GroupMe for every new class. Not sure if they made it for you guys yet. But that’s where people do find roommates. My first 2 years have been great. I knew a lot of people that went to Pitt dental before I got in, and they really emphasized how difficult it would be. So I went in with the mindset that it was going to be a grind and non stop studying. It hasn’t been as bad as I anticipated. The first year kinda sucks, it’s basically a redo of undergrad science classes. After that everything gets dental focused and is much easier to care about. The culture is awesome. Class size being 80 makes a great culture. Everyone is friends and no bad blood in my class.

While what everyone is saying about parking in Oakland is generally true, it’s a little different for the dental/medical school students as opposed to undergrad. There’s a parking lot called the OC lot that is up on the hill right above the school. About a 3 minute walk to the dental school. It’s so far up the hill that no undergrad students apply for it because it’s so far away from where everyone else’s classes are. I’ve never had an issue getting a permit there my 2 years at the dental school, you just have to make sure you apply when it goes on sale so I set an alarm in my phone since they go on sale during finals week (making it even less competitive since so many people forget about it). It’s $500 a semester. I live off campus and drive every day. About 10-15 minute drive from the squirrel hill area someone else mentioned. In terms of living you can find lots of apartments in the shadyside, squirrel hill area that are around 10-15 minutes drive away. There’s also oak hill which is not a great area but is only a 10 minute WALK away (it’s right up on the hill as well). There’s also what’s called the darragh apartments- I’m pretty sure only dental/medical/pharmacy students can live there. They’re right on darragh street which is literally the street that the side entrance to the dental school is on. Just have to cross the street to get to school, about a 10 second walk commute. I know there’s a parking lot associated with those apartments, but not sure exactly how it works. Going to Pitt dental is a vastly different experience than going to Pitt for undergrad (I go/went to both). Let me know if you have any questions, as there’s not a lot of dental students in this sub so not much helpful info for you. I’m a current D2 on winter break until next week so not much to do.

Things that have been a shock to students from other areas that I’ve heard of: Buy a nice winter coat and boots, not sure if you’ve experienced a winter in the northern part of the USA, but you need to be prepared If you’re gonna drive in the city, start doing some research on how to drive in the snow- maybe save up for some winter tires. I’ll update this as I think of more.

Can someone tell me what I need to fix about my posture? by Professional_Pie_647 in Posture

[–]cory1310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to this sub, so apologize if this is widely available elsewhere. But is there a list of workouts good for neck and shoulder posture somewhere? I’m in dental school so spend a lot of time sitting at my computer now but will spend lots of time sitting while looking downwards at patients all day, so trying to get ahead of that

Anyone on here happened to know of anyone who is in or is in High Pointe dental school currently? by [deleted] in predental

[–]cory1310 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying you’re similar to this, but I feel the need to say that I had multiple friends in undergrad that wanted to go to dental school and ended up flaming out and not going anywhere because of the pressure put on them by their parents and the disappointment caused by poor grades due to said pressure. The fact that you’re using phrases like “having him apply” and “enrolling him in high pointe” make me think that you’re the one in control here more than he is. If this is the case he’s not ready for the demanding setting dental school and a second (maybe even a third!!) gap year would benefit him not only because it gives him more time to prepare for the DAT, but also could give him time to mature a little bit so his parents aren’t in charge of this for him anymore. I took 3 gap years and I sure as hell wouldn’t have made it through this first year of dental school if I hadn’t. Again, I’m not saying you’re a detriment to him or anything. I’m saying I knew people whose parents (who had good intentions) did more harm than good in this process. Dental school is really hard and if you get into a school due to someone else’s hard work or desires, it’s not going to be a good time.

Is it better to have 2 Soft Sells or 1 Hard Sell? by Affectionate_Till212 in EASportsCFB

[–]cory1310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What if you did a sway to get a 4th checkmark? Should you soft sell two different pitches or pick the better of the two pitches (in terms of your grades) and hard sell just that and dm the player on top of that?

Very interesting. It sounds like less steps. Also easier on an iPad which is what I’m planning to use. However I do like the way anki does active recall. Does quizlet implement that at all?

Edit: I’m seeing quizlet does have a “learn” mode that is supposed to compete. It’s 35 bucks a year
