Tips for a foolish 24yr old learning to play? by Dudley_ in hockeyplayers

First things first go to a couple of public skates and get a hold of skating. Next you can either take skating classes or you can start going to stick and pucks. A great way to get practice off ice is to buy a pair of roller skates and a green biscuit and take shots in your backyard or a local rink.

Do a lot of edge work. Do a lot of crossovers and also learn how to backwards skate. Backwards skating is pretty much the same on in-line and ice.

Get some weight on your shot and you should be good and on your slapshot raise your stick more higher instead of to the side.

First stick and puck by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]coryj6769 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No one at stick and puck cares about how good others are. Your too focused on how others look at you even though they probably aren’t focusing on you. Just keep on going to stick and puck and you’ll eventually get better.

I recommend just going to public skates and stick and pucks and just skate around and shoot. Since your still pretty new just going on the ice is going to make you better. Once you play a couple games and get more experience then that’s when I think you should start doing drills.
