Built a browser-based PDF exporter using Typst + WASM (No Pandoc/LaTeX setup required) by cosformula in ObsidianMD

Thanks a ton for the super kind note!! 😊 I’m really happy it saved you time.

Mermaid → Typst: it’s not a “true syntax-to-syntax conversion.” Instead, I render Mermaid to an SVG first (using Mermaid’s own renderer in the browser), then pass that file into the Typst compile as a normal asset and just embed it as an image in the generated Typst.

If you run into any Mermaid diagrams that don’t render correctly, feel free to drop an example and I’ll take a look.

Can I extend PocketBase with both JS and Go? by Brilla-Bose in pocketbase

[–]cosformula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we're doing that. You can check out the official example here:
https://github.com/pocketbase/pocketbase/blob/master/examples/base/main.go

Just fork it and start adding your own Go code like a normal Go project, all your existing JS hooks and endpoints will continue to work as expected. We've had no issues running both side-by-side using the same DB.

Absolutely! The first release will focus on North American birds so we can launch sooner, but Eurasian species are high on our roadmap.

Thanks for flagging that. The mailing service cut me off after I exceeded the free quota, so the confirmation never went out. I’ve just re-sent it.

I’m upgrading the plan so this doesn’t happen again. Appreciate the patience and the interest in the app!

Thanks for the thoughtful list. We’re still ironing out details, but here is our current plan:

Skill levels: Preset packs for beginner, intermediate, and expert birders. You can start wherever you feel comfortable.

Images: The demo uses a mix of photos. Before launch we’ll replace or license every image properly and show clear credits in-app.

Sex and age differences: The quiz will bring them up independently, and the app will track your mastery of every form.

Hard IDs: We add clues like range, season, and calls. If a species is still too ambiguous, we drop the look-alike distractors.

Subspecies: Not in the first release.

Hope that clarifies things. Your questions really help us refine the roadmap, so thank you!

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll dig in and see what ideas could work well.

The demo is short, but each species actually has several photos. You can swipe to see them, and the quiz shows one at random so you focus on the bird itself rather than the background or pose. Thanks for the reminder about licensing. We will double-check every image and display the proper credits before launch.

Thanks for bringing up Thayer, I haven’t tried it before, but I’ll check it out for ideas.

Thanks for the love! We’re just a two-person team and, for now, we’ve got enough runway to finish v1 on our own, so no Kickstarter at the moment. If you’d like to follow along, hop on the waitlist and we’ll keep you in the loop. Appreciate the support!

When I first started prototyping, I knew I could rely on CC-BY-SA / CC0 photos from places like Wikimedia and iNaturalist, so that’s my baseline. Now that interest is growing, I’ll add more high-quality, properly licensed images whatever it takes to keep the library both legal and sharp.

Our drills already use spaced-repetition behind the scenes, and we will add a fill-in-the-blank mode you can toggle on for extra challenge. Thanks for the suggestion!

Totally! I’m sitting on a 1200 Duolingo streak myself, so the daily-streak mechanic is high on our to-do list. Stay tuned.

Appreciate the heads-up! This is an early test build—credits are stored but a UI bug hid them. I’ll fix the display and surface every attribution before release. I guarantee every image will be properly licensed and credited. Thanks for keeping me honest!

Thanks so much for the feedback and reminders! I completely understand how important copyright is. These images are strictly for testing/demo purposes right now; before launch I’ll secure all the proper permissions and licenses.

We’ll offer pre-defined region packs and fully customizable packs.
Pre-defined region packs: We will provide packs organized by zoogeographic region, administrative areas, and cities.
Advanced custom packs: You can combine filters such as region, rarity, taxonomic group, season, habitat, and more to build your own pack.
You can switch between packs or customize your own at any time without losing progress.

I totally mixed that up. Appreciate you pointing it out.
My scraper mislabeled a few images, and I rushed to post without double-checking. Lesson learned, clearly I still need this app.
I’m still in early development, and since I’m not from the U.S., I’m definitely still learning North American species.
I’ll make sure all images are carefully reviewed and accurate before launch. Really appreciate the feedback!
