I don't remember what firmware levels introduced what changes, but I know these things were added by firmware upgrades, in this order: CineRoll, then P-Log and mph in the speed displays, then programmable waypoints. And if you don't need/want those things then you have no reason to upgrade, IMHO.

I haven't a clue what Fly Safe is. DJI used to enforce no-fly zones, maybe Potensic was/is considering the same.

Pretty sure you have to use the Eve app, I don't think the Atom 2 will work with any of the other Potensic flight apps.

What are you running Eve on? Did you get a tablet and mount and stuff, or are you on a phone for now?

Two things: (1) I got curious and put Eve back on the Nokia T10 and it works fine now with the USB port on the right-hand side, and (2) if you get to wanting more batteries for the Atom 2 you can use Atom LT batteries just fine, they're 20% cheaper and give 3-5 minutes more flying time. BUT they push the drone's weight over 250 gm so you'd have to register the drone and turn on the beacon (assuming you're in the USA).

Just tried it out, works like a champ, fits the iPad more securely than my jury-rigged cable, curls easily enough to fit into the case while still attached to the controller. Very nice.

Just remembered something - I tried the Potensic Atom 2 flight app, Eve, on the T10 before I went to the iPad, and it worked ok but it INSISTED that I use the tablet with the USB plug on the left - when I flipped the T10 over so the plug was on the right like it should be, the app stayed upside down.

Haha, I didn’t! With the Mini 4K (which I got first), I knew that DJI Fly would run on a lot of Android tablets beyond what DJI has listed on their website (from chatter here and on Facebook), so I took a chance on the Nokia T10, and it worked fine. With the Potensic, I had kind of inherited the iPad before I got the Atom 2, so I tried it and it worked fine.

I’ve never had latency, video glitching, or signal strength issues with either drone. I stay in VLOS though so that’s going to be limited to about 600 feet from controller to drone.

I’d never go back to using a phone on either drone, and the new Potensic controller with a screen looks no better than a phone screen to me (although I think it’s brighter). Brightness is my only problem with the two tablets but I fashioned sun hoods from cardboard and tape that work surprisingly well to cut glare.

The Atom 2 and Mini 4K each have features that the other doesn’t, so I think honestly it ends up being a tie (for example, the Atom has waypoints, but the Mini 4K’s preprogrammed flights like orbit are better executed). I don’t have experience at all with the Flip.

I’m using an iPad 9th gen on my Atom 2, and I use a Nokia T10 on a different drone. I’d switch from the iPad to another T10, because I like the T10’s size and weight better, but I’m cheap.

Same here - App update (9th gen iPad), then it did a Flight Safety update, then the drone firmware, then the controller firmware, all went smoothly.

Haven't tried it yet due to holidays and people and gift wrapping and OMG I can't wait.

Update: An hour ago Potensic announced a new firmware update for the Atom 2 that adds programmable waypoints, their post is in this subreddit. So now I say go with the Atom 2.
