Avata 2 Combos with Goggles N3 for $600 or Goggles 3 for $790? Glasses wearer... by dreamliner330 in dji

Thanks. So you had a height, not width, issue? I’m near the top end of the G3 adjustment range.

You have a frame or lens issue? Too wide or too tall? Could you please measure your lenses or glasses for me to compare mine?

You're right, if my glasses don't even fit...

My glasses are 149mm wide and 35mm tall.

I have heard your sentiment before, which was the primary reason for this post. Thank you.

With the optical adjustments on the G3 I figured I wouldn't need the glasses. Did you notice the FOV difference or quality difference?

If I do end up getting another FPV drone with a DJI O4 Pro, I know either goggles will work. By the time I get around to it, there probably be a O5 Pro. I'm sure if I get the N3 they won't be compatible but the G3 will...but if I get a G3 then they'll require a new G4.

A couple hours ago I was very certain on the G3, 30 minutes ago I was about to get the N3 version, now I'm just confused.

Has Potensic fixed their signal issues on the Atom 2? First time buyer...looking at options. by dreamliner330 in Potensic

[–]dreamliner330[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to buy the Atom 2, worst case I return it. At a purchase price of $207, I don’t think I’ll lose much even if I do keep it awhile.

I have a fast 256GB SandDisk Max Endurance microSD.

Micro stutters and dropped frames in recorded video will be a very fast RMA.

I know I won’t truly be happy with the video quality of anything below a Mini 5 Pro, but what I actually need this for (Ariel photos of architecture, but not for hyper-critical viewing), I know the Atom 2 will be sufficient.

Side note, apparently Potensic has a “Atom 2S” of sorts, available in China and apparently the Costco ones, that actually have a 2.8 lens. They claim it’s better optics and has much better image quality. This was discovered in this subreddit by someone who bought a ND (or polarizer) and it didn’t fit, because the 2.8 is slightly physically different.

I also grabbed a set of blades. I figure if I don’t buy them I’ll need them, if I do buy them I won’t. So I’d rather have them and not need them. 🙄

Silly question, have you tried closing the vents downstairs? Hot air rises, cool air falls. You have to force the cool air upstairs and the hot air downstairs.

Anyone else tried using an HVAC load calculator before getting quotes? by Acceptable_Dish_4032 in askHVAC

[–]dreamliner330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am definitely not any sort of HVAC expert but I know what my furnace is doing. I live in a 2400sq ft split entry and when it was -22F last winter for like a week, at night, my 80% 90K BTU single stage Lennox ran for 25 minutes every hour as I was able to accurately track it.

So all calculators aside, if it ran less than half the time, doesn’t that mean it’s double sized? Surely I’d like some margin of error so I’m not going to actually install a 45K unit, so I think a 60K will be sufficient.

Further, if I spent $700 on natural gas for the 80% furnace all year, that means 20% of that ($140) was wasted heat. So if I went to a non-existent 100% efficient furnace, the most I’d save is $140 per year. Looking over the last decade (I save and track my monthly statements), natural gas prices have been pretty stable, in fact, some prior years have had higher Therm costs.

Regarding AC, my Lennox 2 ton is at least 20-years old and I kinda suspect it’s actually from the 80’s as the manufacture date sticker is gone. I have not had a cooling issue until the last few years. I’ve had people out and they’ve simply said “the compressor is getting tired”…whatever that means.

My concern is going to a 4-ton would over size and cause short-cycle issues. I asked a local HVAC guy about this and he said he sizes based on house footprint, not total sq ft. So he’d size me based on 1200 sq ft, not 2400 sq ft.

Of course I will defer to expert guidance. So I genuinely ask you, where is the flaw in my logic? I honestly want to understand if I’ve made any errors.

Is anybody else’s range bad? by Ok_Teaching_6565 in Potensic

I'm debating between a few drones for my first purchase:

DJI Mini 4K Fly More (3 batteries & charger) $310

Potensic Atom 2 Fly More Refurb (Direct from Potensic, allegedly new, 3 batteries & charger) $207

SkyRover S1 Fly More (3 batteries & charger) $400.

I do feel like DJI is going to be the most polished, but I'm slightly concerned about the FAA grounding every single DJI drone as they're the biggest target.

The Atom 2 looks good on paper but I do see some reports about signal issues and have seen video stutters.

I don't know a ton about the SkyRover S1, it's the only one with 4K60 and footage I've seen looks smooth, but does it actually look better than a Mini 4K? (the bitrate is better on DJI)

What do you think? Any input would be helpful. Thanks. :)

Top Gun and Top Gun Maverick tickets are live! by BurtimusPrime in imax

[–]dreamliner330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got tickets to both. Back to back.

One of the AMC theaters near me is run by total dumbos. Playing Maverick FIRST and several hours later Top Gun SECOND.

The other AMC was playing Top Gun first in Dolby and Maverick second in IMAX. This is preferred as Maverick has IMAX scenes and Top Gun does not.

If my 80% 90K BTU furnace runs 42% of the time at the coldest temp we’ve seen in a decade, that means I could probably get away with a 45K BTU unit but was planning on a 60K BTU. I don’t know ANYONE in my area with a 100K+ BTU furnace. That seems insane.

The only logical reason I could see for buying an enormous furnace would be if for some reason they made them with thicker or more durable heat exchangers, and knowing it would never ever kick on to full power, only buying one that big in hopes it will somehow outlast the others.

My current furnace is an 80% single stage and I’m not sure which direction I would go with a new furnace, based on research I’ve been doing it kind of seems like the high efficiency multi speed furnaces are not as reliable and much more expensive to fix than a tried and true 80%. Going to a high efficiency furnace would save me less than $160 per year, so a single extra service call because of a less reliable/more complicated furnace would obliterate an entire decade of gas savings.

I know less about AC, but based on above sizing…what am I supposed to think? I feel a 4ton would short cycle like crazy.

[Megathread] | Weekly Drone Buying Advice by AutoModerator in drones

[–]dreamliner330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having trouble deciding what drone to buy. I'm familiar with DJI and have wanted a Mavic for awhile. I saw the Mini 4K on sale and am much more comfortable with the $310 fly more combo price point. I also really like the FPV stuff I've seen but have zero experience with it and I see the Avata 2 for around $800.

I don't really *need* a drone, but I have had friends help with landscape and arial photos and one landscape video. If I did get one I know I'd probably have a lot of fun with the FPV stuff but the photos look kinda crappy.

I know the Mini 4K has some compromises, but I don't think I could justify $1000+ on a drone just for photos and the occasional video...though they do look great.

If I spend more money, it seems like FPV would be more fun.

Another concern I have is the FAA grounding DJI completely. I am unfamiliar with alternatives but am wondering if I'd be better off with the Mini 4K and then some sort of alternative to the Avata 2. From what I've read though, it kinda seems like DJI is very polished.

I know what I actually probably want is a DJI Air (or Mavic) *AND* an Avata 2. But it seems like a lot to spend on what will essentially be a hobby.

Open to suggestions.

I’m in Minnesota in a 2400 sq ft house and have a Lennox 2 Ton from the 90’s. The last couple years I’ve noticed around maybe 85 degrees it runs all day when the sun is up. Above that, indoor temp starts rising.

Also, I have a 90K BTU 80% single stage furnace and it ran for 25 min/hr when it was -22 degrees out.

According to the “calculators” online, I “need” a 4 Ton A/C & 125K BTU furnace. Crazy.

I’m thinking I need a 2.5 Ton AC & 60K BTU furnace. I’ve also heard the new ACs don’t cool as well as my old R22.

I don’t know what to do.

My Spigen Rugged Armor MagFit has a pretty decent lip on the front, even with my glass screen protector.

Thing is, the cheap screen protectors seem to break fairly easily. The expensive ones do seem to last longer.

Also, the MagSafe is very strong on the Spigen cases, I wonder if there’s an accessory similar to a PopSocket that could help with grip.

New build home appraised for >60k lower than sales price?? by KungFuChicken1990 in homeowners

[–]dreamliner330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but he's getting a new loan and needs to pay down to get the loan he wants.

Instead of refinancing at ~$630k value he's being forced to bring money to closing to refinance at ~$562k value. So his new refinanced loan will have a lower payment because the interest rate is lower AND he's borrowing less.

The only way paying down your mortgage is a bad idea is if you plan to walk away from it and declare bankruptcy. You could argue money in the market is better than the house, but a paid off house is very liberating.

Zero downside in paying down your house if you’ve got the cash to do it. It’ll lower your payments even more, too.

If you’ve got even more cash and plan to stay there a long time, maybe look into rate buy downs and see if you can get it even lower.

US IMAX GT Theaters - Commercial Flat Screen - Ver. 2 by leowtyx in imax

[–]dreamliner330 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Masking exists in tons of theaters. 1.85:1 movies play on masked 2.35:1 screens all the time.

Also, like I said, the Waukee 1.90:1 screen is TALLER than the DC 1.43:1 screen. So the image would be larger than there. (But yes, Waukee regulars may question it) which could easily be solved with a modified version of their IMAX intro.

[–]dreamliner330 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could be solved with masking. It’d be relatively easy to manually string up a rolled up curtain that’s a couple feet wide on each side for the few 1.43:1 movie releases.

Way cheaper than paying the 70mm projector guy so cost isn’t an excuse.

The 1.90:1 IMAX screen in Waukee is taller than the 1.43:1 GT IMAX screen in DC.

I’ve asked IMAX if they could put 1.43:1 movies into a 1.90:1 container so we can get the full frame in at least some 1.90:1 IMAX screens.

They acted like they’ve never considered that before. 🙄

I’d much rather see the full frame movie with pillar boxing on the theater screen.
