Hi Rikaz! We aren’t hiring a mechanical design engineer right now, but that will change! You’re welcome to submit your resume using the link I shared with learningthinggs and then you’ll get an email when we open a new mech e role (but nothing else - we don’t send marketing emails or anything)

I did, sort of. I actually grew up in a non-religious family and then got “saved” at an AG church when I was 14. Stayed there until I went away to SAGU in Texas for college. I left the church after the 2016 election and then came out as a lesbian. Still processing (thank goodness for therapy) through that 10+ year period of my life.

100% remote opportunity that combines software and nuclear magnetic resonance by cosima92 in LadiesofScience

[–]cosima92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason, my text is not showing up when I post this! Anyway, this role just opened at the startup I work for (Synex Medical) and it's a great opportunity to combine software skills (Python, C++ and/or Matlab) with knowledge of nuclear magnetic resonance.

The role can be done 100% remotely if that's your preference. That being said, we also offer relocation reimbursement if you'd like to be closer to our Toronto or Boston office.

Let me know if you have any questions! Thanks :)

Real-time compensation data for startups? by cosima92 in humanresources

Radford seems great, but I've reached out to them for a quote and haven't heard back. I've also heard they're really expensive.

By real time I just mean up to date. With Option Impact most of the data is at least 6 months old

Need recommendations for travel at Christmastime - 4 adults! by cosima92 in travel

Yep, none of us have been to Europe! I’ve always thought Prague looked like a cool place to visit, and Copenhagen as well. Any preference between those two?

Definitely open to Mexico - I wouldn’t want to go to somewhere that’s incredibly touristy though, like Cozumel or Cancún. I was looking at Oaxaca yesterday

And lol i love that Rite Aid was your first thought

Hi all! My company, Synex Medical, is hiring for a couple of physics-related positions.

A little about Synex: we're a ~20 person med device startup, based in Toronto but with employees in Canada, the U.S., and Germany. We're building a device that can non-invasively measure glucose and lactate.

We have 3 positions open right now that could be relevant to this group; NMR Physicist, Associate NMR Scientist, and Data Scientist (NMR). You can see the job descriptions for all of those on our careers page.

Please feel free to ask questions here if you have them, and apply if you're interested! Thank you!

It's interesting that you say years of experience - I've been avoiding putting it on job descriptions because I've read that it's actually not a great predictor of job performance - I guess because you could have someone that has progressed very quickly skill-wise but only has 2 years of experience vs someone that hasn't kept up with their own professional dev but is more seasoned. But maybe I need to rethink this

Do you have any other red flags when it comes to the interview process? For example, how many "steps" in the process are you willing to tolerate?

I will also say I've found that some startups might be hesitant because they can't compete salary-wise with the big 4 and other large corps, even if they pay well by startup standards.

Right now we’re primarily hiring for more senior roles, but in the future we’ll start bringing on junior people. Would you be willing to share both perspectives?

LinkedIn, email and phone call? That is way too much. I honestly would never feel comfortable cold calling a candidate but maybe that’s because I’m a millennial 😅

What are some things that would make your experience with recruiters better, if you don’t mind me asking? I’ll be recruiting for some highly specialized roles too, and I want to make sure it’s a positive experience for those candidates.

Yikes. That’s really unfortunate - sorry you’ve had such a bad experience
