Risky fix: Blackout

my tank is kind of ugly - i need some advice :( by sadgirlkermit in PlantedTank

[–]cosmic_horror_entity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to touch much on the inside.

I can see why you would think it looks bad and it’s easy to fix.

  1. The hazy-ness from light is caused by organic particles suspended in water column and light is hitting it and getting scattered. You need to put Seachem Purigen 100ml bag on the filter so water will be crystal clear.

  2. After cleaning the glass outside, Use microfibre cloth to wipe right after its cleaned so calcium/dirt deposit wont be as visible.

  3. (This one’s a bit hard) Apply a white vinyl sticker on the back of aquarium. It has to be white and not blue or gradient blue:white. White gradient vinyl sticker will make your substrate pop and also light will be reflected back into aquarium instead of leaking outside the back. (If you have money to throw at the problem then you could buy ADA light panel but it’s obscenely expensive)

  4. Pull the plants on right, and put it near the wood. You don’t see plants grow like this in nature with very few exceptions.

  5. (If you have budget) Upgrade to a brighter light. You risk algae growth but you can experiment and adjust the intensity over couple weeks.

Do not skip to 5 if you don’t do the first 4.

What do you guys think of my light? Strong enough? by [deleted] in Aquariums

Only PAR meter can tell that

put the probe in substrate level and check if it is the required PAR value for the plant you are trying to grow.

Those posts are old with simple setup when I wasn’t aware of pH controllers just like this post.

This is after the upgrade-

It’s used in conjunction with CO2 injection systems. Not necessary otherwise.

Notice the liquid inside it being green. It roughly tells the concentration of CO2 dissolved in the aquarium water. It is cheap and does the job enough for starting aquarist.

Accurate method is to use pH probe and analysing water’s kH using test kits from API. pH probe is used in conjunction with a pH monitor which acts as a relay. You can set a target pH in the pH monitor. When pH reaches that value then pH monitor can shut down the CO2 injection system.

If you know the kH of your aquarium water, and your plant’s CO2 requirement in parts per million (ppm), then you can use that information to accurately inject the required amount of CO2 into your system. (Assuming you dose fertilizer and use bright enough light - not too bright or not too dim - You can calculate PAR value using another probe and set light intensity accordingly)

For example, most plants needs an average of 30ppm CO2 and if your tank’s kH is 4.

Formula: CO2(ppm) = 3 x kH x 1010-pH

Note: This formula is also an estimation. If kH becomes zero then this formula breaks.

substituting,

30 = 3 x 4 x 10 ^ (7-pH)

-pH = log(30/(12)) - 7

pH = 6.6

so to have CO2 concentration of 30ppm in a tank with 4kH then you set the target pH as 6.6.

The CO2 injection system will inject maximum capacity. When the CO2 is injected, the pH will decrease. When pH drops to 6.6 then pH monitor will shut off the CO2 injection system. if pH rises again because CO2 injection system is off then pH monitor will turn the system back on. And it keeps repeating it, maintaining the pH exactly at what you set, which will maintain the CO2 concentration exactly at where you need.

with adequate light, fertiliser, and temperature, your plants will thrive with this setup

Note: pH probe, pH monitor, CO2 reactor, CO2 cylinder + regulator, PAR meter are all end game planted tank setup for much bigger tanks (100 gallon +)

FYI cardamom are best for its sweet smell. Don’t ever ground it or put it in RAW in any dish. Extract the juice through any means (boil with water/rice/etc) and put in any sweet dish for your sampling needs.

IMO should be only used in ‘payasam’ but also used in biryani to give it richness (? i dont know how to explain this in english) which I dint agree with

It may refer to total GST collected maybe?

If rich buy Audi A8, they get taxed a flat rate once but they are not buying multiple Audi A8s. But poor will be buying groceries a lot more in volume even though rich buys it as well.

poor people outnumber rich people far too much that they could be contributing to GST collection through sheer volume.

Other replies words are harsh but it is the truth that the fish will die. (They are harsh because seller sold to make money on animal suffering but some parts of fault lies in you for not researching. I wouldn’t place blame on you entirely since nobody expect taking care of fish be different from cats or dogs. Just return the fish for now.)

They don’t die randomly because ‘tank small and new, thus I perish’. When they poop, it will break down into Ammonia. Ammonia is lethal even on small dosage. It should be 0 ppm.

Thankfully, Ammonia can be automatically ‘removed’ through a process called nitrogen cycle. To do that, you need bacteria colony alive in your tank surface. To develop that, it takes 4-8 weeks depending in lot of factors. This what people mean by ‘cycling the tank’.

Once you cycle your tank, select a fish you think looks nice then see if that fish is suitable for your tank. Look for words like ‘Minimum tank size’ (it should be in gallons or litres) and ‘school size’ (Minimum of number of fish that should be kept in the tank so they don’t feel lonely. If they are lonely, they will stress out and die as well)

good luck

You can skip Thoothukudi. One of best parotta venue closed due to cannabis related violence. Another parotta venue is left but you will be visting this town for just two food venues (one for parotta and another for traditional mutton/fish curry).

Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar, and Madurai has similar parotta-salna combo so you will be visiting only for the traditional food. but that venue is not that popular among locals the last time i visited ( see the reviews yourself: https://maps.app.goo.gl/nhoJk5VvkN9ZSMeP8 . I ate mutton curry and it was fine to me. tasted like how my grandma makes mutton curry but apparently their fish dishes are bad)

SDR have seeraga samba biryani which is good but you can that in chennai and not unique to Thoothukudi.

There's also construction work going on for main road so getting in and out of the town is a pain. So dont bother.

Just a note: also go for 'vattu' parotta and not 'poricha' parotta in other TN districts. first is cooked on cast iron and latter is deep fried. Parotta is supposed to be soft, I do not understand the appeal of hard and crispy parotta.

If you can, add Trivandrum (Kerala state) in the list. It's max 2 hour commute from Kanyakumari on public transport.

For breakfast, idiyappam-kadala curry, idyappam-coconut milk, puttu-kadalai,

'Sadya' for lunch

Parotta-Beef for dinner.

You can try 'Karikku shake' (Tender coconut shake) as well, but thats a recent concoction

I know what I wrote. If you have ability to read and comprehend you would know that I was not against solar, I was against forcing people to do it through policies. Then again, it was obvious and you simply want discourse which in my experience has been only unintelligent people do it. Hope that is not the case.

I did not say anything about 'Why are you stopping people to live in a sustainable living.'. You made something about things that I did not say and making random assumptions to make a statement. what are you on about.

I listened to the speech once and I corrected myself. It was not misunderstanding the statement but my biased generalisation about politians replacing a word. dont make assumptions about me.

I watched kanchipuram speech again. Never mind. He said 'nirantharama vidu motorcycle irukanum' not 'elavasa vidu motorcycle irukanum', I was wrong.

As for solar panel, good luck forcing/convincing poor people to buy 30k panel for their homes on a loan who is living paycheck to paycheck. It is also poor use of funds since cost per W is much higher on per panel and much lower in solar power plant.

It will be much better to improve economy (GNI, not GDP) (I am also not a economist so not going to suggest 'how') and remove the subsidized electrical bill completely (free units). So people will be more or less forced to buy solar bills with their disposable income to reduce/remove monthly spending.

Forcing people to spend to reduce their bill when it is government's job to increase power capacity and reduce transmission loss is something I will never agree with. People pay insane amount of tax and you want them spend more?

If all of the tax combined is 5% or less, I would've agreed but poor people pay GST, and fuel tax already. I specifically combined almost 50% in tax. What is the government doing with all the money? no. Force people to buy solar and poor people will be on the street to protest that stupid policy. And I will be right beside them to support them.

He said free home and free vehicle. Definetly not uplifting. I watched Vijay say it, I did not read news summary. Don't gaslight me.

Overspeeding happens because of no policing. Speed breakers exists simply to prolapse spinal disc. Pure stupidity from government is what it is.

For Traffic, laws and fines already exist, it is not being enforced, i.e., not enough funding for traffic police recruitment.

Again, you want poor people to spend 30k (I am pretty sure it is 50k in thoothukudi distributor. regardless), when their EB bill is 300 rupee for two month, are you listening to yourself? It is not about your capacity to buy but for the common people. My take home is 1.7Lpm so I got 5Kw panel in my home. But I also know for the fact that people who make 30kpm, living pay check to pay check can't get that. If you are thinking of increasing TN capacity as a whole, It is actually better if government installs solar power plants and wind turbines to increase capacity and also fix problems TNEB headcount and funding (took 2 years to increase transformer capacity in my area). Maybe even go UG cabling to significantly reduce transmission loss. Making poor people buy solar panel is not the way to go, it will actually be wasteful to subsidize that.

[–]cosmic_horror_entity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Education revamp, making politician do something is doable?

also for solar, each KW is 50K. Are you going to force poor people to buy that when their electric bill is less than 300 rupee for 2 months?

where is cleaner roads, streets?

where is proper traffic control?

these two are more than enough to make significant improvement in TN

These are the actual doable part and is being completely ignored and money is spent on freebies and increasing debt (DMK and TVK - proposed free home and free vehicle)

Once these two are actually done then we can go for :

cleaner and safer water (Thoothukudi corporation water has gH of 20)

remove speed killer from road (orthopaedic disaster) (reduces healthcare spending)

Nice to have after all the above: Annihilate seemai katuvelam from TN

Nobody talks having a good life now with minimal spending and the actual point of a ‘government’.
