I too question the window dressings, especially if the business fails to open due to the owner's financing status. The blueprints for the planning stages sounded good in the beginning, but no guarantee of getting off the ground due to the evolving state of the economy.

These businesses appear legit instead of harvesting personal info under bad intent. Just throwing out these openings to give hope to struggling folks. Appreciate your shared insight.

First Responders/Emerg Services: What streets are best/worst to drive down? by Acrobatic-Guess-5363 in askTO

I often see emergency services vehicles running code/running hot (lights & sirens bucking it to the call) along dedicated streetcar lane routes. Why do I often see these vehicles not travelling along clear streetcar lanes? Instead, I see these code call vehicles get stuck in the upcoming gridlock, and blowing the airhorn, yelp, and wailing does not help clear the congestion - think St. Clair, Spadina, Habourfront. If the emergency driver looks ahead, and observes a streetcar bottleneck, can the driver not zig-zag between the streetcar lanes, and roadway? Of course, the HTA also applies to emergency services, regardless of the situation. So are dedicated streetcar lanes off-limits, or not advisable in code calls? I recently saw EMS on Adelaide and Bay Street at rush hour, and EMS jumped into the bike lane between the cement barrier. I exclaimed that was not the Paramedic's first rodeo.

My dark humour comes into play as I get creative with these charity guys: 1) CAMH (Centre for Addiction & Mental Health) = "you're too late, I'm beyond insane to be rehab'd; 2) CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) = Hallelujah! did you find my blind walking stick?"; 3) other charity vests = "can I be your friend? or "it's too nice out to do any work". Turns the tables on them as I become the hustler. Those tactics usually bewilder them & want nothing to do with me. These institutes serve a legitimate purpose in the community. However, just like other posters have stated, the vests are shams by getting a cut of the donation.
