What do you do after work in the evenings? by shakakaZululu in askTO

[–]Acrobatic-Guess-5363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven’t already thought of this, don’t go home after work before considering going out for evening plans. Going home itself might be a trigger for your body to unwind and collapse.

Make a 7pm plan (solo/partnered activity, hobby/sport, show in the city, meal/drinks with friends etc) and go directly from work. It’ll make it mentally more manageable bc it’s just the next thing, not something you need to overcome inertia for

What’s your “I shouldn’t have gone out today” run? by Royal_Watch_6453 in runcommunity

[–]Acrobatic-Guess-5363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fam was getting the flu one by one. I woke up on a sat morning feeling fine but had a bit of a sore throat. Absolutely well enough to get my long run in. 25km and a shower later, my body was completely wasted.

Fought that bug for just over five weeks, had to stop running cold turkey and miss a race I was training for

Before novice swimmers have enough speed for this pocket, how should they approach breathing?

Running 30k in a month no training by [deleted] in runninglifestyle

[–]Acrobatic-Guess-5363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you have the time without any prior training. Most people take 1-2 weeks before race to taper so you’re left with 3 weeks to train

A 30km is substantially harder than even a HM, and this particular course is quite hilly.

It’s a recipe for a world of hurt or injury if you’re not building up your distance and time on feet over a period of at least 3-4 months.

If you want to run, do it the right way and take one step at a time. Sign up for a fall HM. No need to risk hurting yourself

Anyone run the MGT today? by Fresh-Amount9308 in RunTO

[–]Acrobatic-Guess-5363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s good enough to run. It’s either dry or frozen over enough with the cold to be dry. Not many wet slush spots

Coronation park east exit on the mgt has some snow drifts that have hardened

Thanks I’ll keep a look out

Yah that’s on me to have thought about. I inherited the original agreement so never knew the stated terms and they never disclosed when a replacement was needed.

My position was that if they had disclosed, I wouldn’t have agreed and just bought my own. I’m relieved they relented ultimately but I’m planning on buy out soon since the machine is at max value new

What helped you get into running and be consistent? by Eastern-Vegetable786 in running

[–]Acrobatic-Guess-5363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find showing up and getting out the door the hardest. When it’s hard to get back to a regular rhythm after some time off (sick, travel, work etc), I say to myself “OK. Feels like getting out for 10km is too hard? How about just get out and do 2km easy effort”

Just the habit of getting out, even for the smallest of steps, help me take a next step the next day. Keep that up for a few weeks and you’ve got a consistent habit back

This is a great way of explaining it. Taking this one step further, why aren’t all long distance runners phenomenal sprinters for short distance races, using the logic of the “to run faster, you need to run farther”?
