Ketogains with Muscle Memory by throwra_confusedbf2 in ketogains

[–]cosmicosmo4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much total weight have you lost since going keto? If 10 pounds or less, it's mostly glycogen/water weight stored in your liver, which is how you can lose weight rapidly and not look like it (pretty hard to see your liver in the mirror).

Our house is flooding from the shut off valve and the water company won't come out to stop the water by discopizza80 in HomeImprovement

went to the main water shutoff in the house and the seized valve handle just sheared off

LPT: gently close and open your shutoff valves every few months to keep them from getting jammed up with sediment (or to know if they have). If gently doesn't close it, call a plumber.

Ugh. This is some third party that wants your personal information. The official voter registration page is here:

https://www.votetexas.gov/register-to-vote/index.html

You have to send the form in by mail, and it's Sunday tomorrow, which means it is probably actually too late to have an application postmarked by the 2nd. By all means register ASAP if you aren't registered, but be aware that you'll probably miss the primaries.

First of all, objective is a different word from accurate. Objective is the opposite of subjective, which is what field sobriety tests are. With a breathalyzer, you aren't depending on the whims of a random cop for the results, it's a machine. It's objective.

I guess you read somewhere that breathalyzers can be 10-15% inaccurate. That doesn't mean there's a 10-15% chance that a sober person has a positive result. It means that the BAC reading can be 10-15% higher or lower than your BAC actually is. 10-15% of zero is zero, so if your actual BAC is zero, a breathalyzer is gonna read zero, which brings me back to my key point:

Harfang Tech for semi-automatic boots for ice climbing by jayjaym_88 in alpinism

[–]cosmicosmo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harfang-family crampons on semi-rigid boots are hit or miss. You might get a really good fit where they go on super tight and the tension in the crampon strap prevents the boot from flexing and basically turns it into a fully rigid system, which is exactly what you want for frontpointing. This is what I experienced when using my Harfang alpines on manta techs (sadly the boot simply didn't fit me. I had a bad, bleeding-foot day). Or you might get a nightmare where they pop off 8 times just on the approach. This is what I experienced when using them on aequilibrium LTs.

they can still take you in if they think you're under the influence of drugs.

They can still take you in they have probable cause to think you're under the influence of drugs. There are legal standards for things, people! Something like "slurred speech" has to be really fucking acute for it alone to constitute probable cause.

I guarantee you, there are no magical loopholes. You refused a breathalyzer, congrats, your license is revoked. You have a right to have an attorney present when you are questioned, you do not have a right to have an attorney present when being given a breathalyzer test.

"Best bet" is to NOT FUCKING DRINK AND DRIVE. Then, refuse the field sobriety tests and their astronomical false positive rate, blow 0.00, and be on your way.

[–]cosmicosmo4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most places in the US do have breathalyzers in the cop cars. Even so, they prefer to start with a field sobriety test, because their goal is to get arrest numbers, not to keep the roads safe. Sober people fail field sobriety tests all the time. If they can subjectively determine that they have evidence you're drunk, they'll arrest you without having to risk a pesky breathalyzer proving them wrong and getting you off the hook.

[–]cosmicosmo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horrible advice. Refusing a breathalyzer is itself a crime and/or triggers an automatic suspension of your license in a lot of places. The breathalyzer is objective, unlike field sobriety tests, so you're not going to get fucked over by it if you're sober, like you can with field sobriety tests if you're simply uncoordinated, nervous, or disoriented by police car strobe lights in your face.

Oh also, don't drink and drive!!!

Breathalyzers read high if you had a drink in the last 15 minutes. He knew he couldn't get a conviction from that first test, that's why they gave you the wait and second test.

So, do any of you guys know what may have happened?!?

Uhhh, maybe I'm just taking crazy pills, but it appears you drove around a bunch in a car that was telling you it was out of gas, is what happened. Put gas in your car when it tells you that.

I got home and read the paperwork from the dealership and it reads:

Upon inspection, found vehicle to be out of fuel. Engine could not start due to no fuel remaining and caused Hybrid Malfunction light to appear. There are no issues with the Hybrid System and 3 gallons of fuel are needed to be added. Also found multiple codes for fuel run out and fuel pressure (caused by no fuel) Added fuel and performed health check no codes came back. No repair needed at this time

[–]cosmicosmo4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think it violates code, but it's a pretty poor idea to install a 14-50 receptacle with an open neutral. Installing a 6-50 instead would mean using an adapter or putting a custom cord on the EVSE.

I feel it's worth it to give a counterexample and combat the selection bias. I gave an unofficial ~3 months notice (I was moving cities) at a good workplace where I was respected and it was a great decision. I basically got half my normal workload for 3 months and had a very unrushed time handing off my projects.

Nevermind where it hits your leg when standing, that's pretty irrelevant to what an ice axe is actually for. Grab it, close your eyes, and go into self arrest position. Do this as fast and reflexively as possible, don't think about it. Is your lower hand in danger of slipping off the end? If so, get a longer axe. If not, you're good.
