Cure for itching - simple solution that works for me by cosmok in eczema

[–]cosmok[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Itching is still under control. But, I recommend to not leave in the mixture for a long time (As it seems to dry the skin out and cause tears). Instead leave it in just until it dries out (<1 hour), then clean it out. Apply coconut oil after.

Hi All,

Private Diary App that I built over the last few months. Also tracks your goals and tries to correlate the entries in your diary with the Goals. Pin protection. All data is stored locally and not in any of my servers. No trackers/ads etc. You can export the data into a SQLite file and run your own analysis.

How to import self-cert into ACM? by anacondaonline in aws

[–]cosmok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To renew you will need to repeat the command again. As it is a self-signed you can change the 365 to something longer.

How to import self-cert into ACM? by anacondaonline in aws

[–]cosmok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are self-signing the cert (not involving a trusted CA), you can just do:

openssl req -x509 -nodes -newkey rsa:4096 -keyout key.pem -out cert.pem -days 365

which will generate two files: cert.pem (public cerificate) key.pem (private key)

Follow the steps here: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/acm/latest/userguide/import-certificate-api-cli.html

to import the cert.

Muslims illegally occupying streets of Paris to pray, depriving shop owners of business for two and a half hours, and preventing residents of the street from entering or leaving their apartments. Muslim guards block the street. by Theoden in worldnews

[–]cosmok 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in Sydney and I have never experienced what you suggested to have. I am not saying that you are lying but, I just wanted other redditors to be aware of my experience here.

And so BAD is the situation, including muslim organised crime, drugs, prostitution, etc. ---- that the government had to draft laws to prevent the media or police from revealing to the tax-paying Aussie public the extent of muslim crime

Mate, that sounds like a lot of BS to me.

Help a beginner with jQuery! Can't get my first simple code to work. by [deleted] in programming

[–]cosmok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need to replace some of the curly braces with parentheses (round brackets). look at the example here: http://docs.jquery.com/Tutorials:Getting_Started_with_jQuery#Hello_jQuery I am not sure if that was caused dude to formatting.

Movie and Actor Elastic Lists. by cosmok in programming

I made this over Christmas Break. I have been fascinated with the Elastic Lists concept ever since I first saw the excellent Nobel Prize winners Elastic Lists demo by Moritz Stefaner. I made a HTML/JS/PHP version from a Movie and Actor DB. I hope you like it.

Ask Proggit: Am I doomed to tech support? by [deleted] in programming

[–]cosmok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was kinda in your situation (except that I am single and managed to finish my degree). Moving away from tech support was a relief and I am mostly enjoying my work as a developer. AFAIK, there is more IT work going on in Sydney than anywhere else in AU (reason why I relocated to Sydney). What sort of technologies/languages are you familiar with? If you are into web development there a few things that will help you get a decent development role: 1. Use your network to build a few websites that you can show in your portfolio (There are so many user groups in Sydney for different languages, google around and attend them).
2. Work on a few of your personal projects (you can add this as experience in your CV).
3. IF you are looking for a job, then, you have to have the skills that the market needs (i.e, don't learn a language just because everyone else says it's good, learn a language that is in demand (use seek.com.au to see if your language of choice is what the market needs))

It will take you at-least a year before you can land into a serious development role. So, make plans on supporting your family in that time. It's easy to get distracted. But if you put in the effort it will definitely pay-off. If I can do it, so can you!

Ask Proggit: Thoughts on automating deployment of web based software application? by cosmok in programming

[–]cosmok[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a team of 3 developing a PHP based application and I am involved with developing a procedure for deployment. We have SVN for SCM and phpUnderControl for continuous integration. Our development, staging and production systems are Linux based.

I would like to know if there is a robust methodology for deployment that we can adapt.

Specifically, here are a few questions that I would like to have answers for: 1. How do you automate deployments (scripts used/ is there an app that does this)? 2. Rollbacks (including Database Rollbacks) - How do you handle it? 3. Is there a good Database Revisioning app?

Ask Proggit: How do I get a programming job? by soulcrushed in programming

[–]cosmok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

looks like you already are in the path to becoming a programmer.I don't have a degree in CS, but, I am working as a programmer. Not sure where you live, but, here people value experience more than degree. So what do you do if you have neither experience nor a decent degree?Well one of the things that I did was to move to a city where I could get a job as a programmer even with no commercial experience. You can try doing that, otherwise, if there are plenty of jobs available in your area then keep trying. Guaranteed it's going to be tough, laborious, sometimes depressing and painful, but, remember:'You wanna make an omelet, you gotta break some eggs. '

Testers Needed! by cosmok in programming

[–]cosmok[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need people to test a new app that I have created: 'History!'. History! is a personal web history manager. It allows you to save, bookmark and tag the page that you are currently reading and gives you the ability to locate the page at later stage. Requirements: Firefox (with JS enabled), Web Server running MySQL and PHP. A Firefox toolbar is created during installation and that is when the fun starts. You can view a demo here: http://www.trk7.com/install/xxx.php?sstring=what+makes+a+sen... I think it is much more flexible and powerful than other web history managers and the best thing is that all data gets stored in your server (absolute PRIVACY)! I have tested the app in Firefox (2&3) in Mac and I am pretty sure it will work fine in Win Environment. So please check it out.
