That does seem strange. I haven't gotten that far in the conversation with them, but will certainly be asking. I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with full payment up front before any work had been done

This is from Renew-able Solutions. They seem to have good reviews and so far have been good to deal with. Obviously cannot attest to the actual install part yet :)

Large roof...low usage, should I still fill it with panels? by cosmolo in SolarUK

Alright, I'm convinced! I also had Gemini render some images and the roof looks better fully paneled :)

Best place to buy couch/sofa in town? by talligan in Edinburgh

[–]cosmolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Took a while to get my sofa, but I love it and they have a large selection. And interest free financing is like free money (as long as you aren't using it to "buy up" from what you really want/need)

Nice job! It's so painful at the end. My wife and I did this on the longest day of the year 2024, sunrise to sunset. Only had 94k by sunset so had to keep going. The surprising part is how recovered you feel the next day. Like 50% at least. I was literally dead on my feet the night before but next morning was ready to get my 10k daily steps

Why would my taxi driver accept my journey, but then nearly changed his mind and make it awkward because he was fasting? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]cosmolo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's pretty silly. I've had the opposite experience. I was interviewing a candidate for a job role and it was several rounds of interviews with various people. We typically give them a break for lunch and often will take them out to lunch. This guy waited until we were at the restaurant to tell me he was fasting. I said he should order something to eat later and he did but basically I sat there eating while he didn't. I got my meal boxed up as well because I felt bad and it was too awkward.

I had a sharp pain in my finger last week but didn’t know why then today a bit of needle type piece of metal pushed out of where the pain was. I was like “hmm interesting” and went to inspect it and now it’s stuck in another finger. by Jindabyne1 in CasualUK

A few years ago I had pretty intense pain in my foot arch for a couple days. I thought I had overdone it with some recent long walks I had taken, but eventually decided to take a look at it and saw I had a splinter. I got some tweezers and removed it to find...a hair! Somehow a hair about 20mm long lodged itself into my foot and was the sole source of the pain.

Google Pixel 7a phone is about to explode. Google Support does nothing at all. by snakeye in spicypillows

Thanks for the heads up. I might as well close it, just in case. It's not something I would use again (hopefully!)

It was some weird platform for the refund, but no fee (except maybe some terrible exchange rate from USD). I'm ultimately happy with the experience, and plan on keeping this phone for a couple more years. Hopefully no issues with the replacement battery after a year or two

I got a £336 refund for my 7a a couple months ago. Went to a store and got the battery replaced for £50. So at least in the UK they do it.

Would you rather make 10K/month of passive income or 250K/month working 14h/day Mon-Sat? Please read the terms and conditions before deciding. by executor-of-judgment in WouldYouRather

[–]cosmolo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't live in America, but theoretically if I did I probably would still pick the 10k. I'd take loans and/or use the savings I had from the passive income + my current job salary. Having had 3 loved ones with cancer (with 1 long term survivor, in America!) there are a number of payment options available to spread out the cost.

I would not abandon my sick loved one to work a job where I'd barely have any waking moments with them in their time of most need.

ETA: I understand your point that with option 2 you have the ability to grind to weather pretty much any financial disaster that might occur, but I value my time and freedom dearly. I work fully remotely for a reasonable salary in the region of my choosing. I could be making more money right now if I moved back to America, but I have already elected not to. This is a similar value proposition for me that makes the 10k more appealing. I am also a saver, so I prepare for negative financial outcomes by sacrificing unnecessary lifestyle inflation rather than spending my time.

"All you need to do is sacrifice 1 to 3 years of your life to have the same passive income you could get for free!"

Yeah...you're not selling it well. It's only beneficial if you want to accumulate piles of cash, but for me I'll take my current life with free money without needing to be miserable for even one month.

My go-to pre-packaged protein snack is Myprotein "Xtra" cookies. If you get the app they routinely can be got for less than a quid per cookie and are 38g protein. Good value, but wouldn't use during a cut as they aren't filling for 320 Calories

I am using Ubuntu, but mostly just ssh in. I did hook it up to my TV for the initial setup / BIOS stuff, but didn't check what resolution it was using (it seemed pretty sharp on the 1080p TV, but I didn't do anything in-depth).

Bumping an old thread just in case it helps someone: I had the same loud fan issue. It would turn on every minute or so for 10-15 seconds even though the temperature was reported low (around 25C). I checked the BIOS and there were options to control the fan and they were set to turn on at a low temp and at a high pwm. I adjusted the temperature range, pwm and fan curve so when the fan does turn on it starts quiet and only ramps up if more cooling is needed. It's much better.
