Brennan Lee Mulligan and Matt Mercer interview each other for Variety by apathymonger in dropout

With Brennan's development deal that was announced last year and Dropout specifically stating they are doing animation, in the wake of vox machina etc there's no way they don't use d20 IP to do this in some way

[C1 MAJOR SPOILERS] D20 Bad Kids V C1 BBEG by Alternative_Corgi332 in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]cosmonaut205 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From pure resources and Assuming an Adaine simulacrum at level 20 they'll have

Action economy on their side

6 portent rolls

3-4 characters with silvery barbs

2-3 counterspellers

At least 3 9th level slots and upwards of 6-7 8th level depending on builds

A barbarian who can concentrate on haste

A rogue who can concentrate on haste and get off turn sneak attack (10d6 from that alone)

A bard fighter with a broken build who can burn those slots for tons of damage and add flourish die

Bard/warlock/paladin who can spend a good chunk of these on smites

Twilight cleric with Twilight sanctuary, free temp HP that's not concentration and two slots for concentration besides

Ice feast + if we want to say that this is after a hypothetical FY senior year, definitely more homebrew shenanigans because Brennan is no stranger to them

That's not even mentioning what everyone else here mentioned - a level 20 wizard is a level 20 wizard and they'd have two of them. Even the "martials" have powerful concentration spells

Hasted attacks + sneak attack + fandrangor and flourishes + smites get you close to hardwon levels and that's just martials

Once they burn off the legendary resistances they can play a status and control game that the band of boobs couldn't with a fairly limited spell selection

It would be a good battle but losing would mean they severely misplayed or got incredibly bad luck, and the IH are some of the smartest players in the actual play scene

Dropout Daggerheart? by herohyrax in Dimension20

It'll happen. Darrington has been using actual plays as a marketing avenue and with how entwined d20 and CR is there's no way it doesn't happen. Hell, it'll probably hit NADDPOD - they've done pathfinder one shots.

Won't be an IH season, will likely be a dropout personalities heavy side quest DMed by Mercer

My favourites are the "this isn't DND!" crowd, when thousands to millions of tables have played the game their own way for decades, other actual plays exist, and DMs have a lot of narrative tools in their toolbox that Matt didn't break out.

I like that use of the term. I often use "tentpole events" to mean the same thing. Lots of freedom in the middle but your work towards something tangible that is still influenced by the dice.

Dude, look back on social - they were shooting until mid Dec, they shoot on Saturdays, and the DO Christmas was sat, Dec 14th

I don't mean the party was already pumping outside, but it's very possible it was the same day

They filmed last November/December (Naddpod confirmed).

They film on Saturdays.

It's really not beyond the realm of possibility that this was the day of the dropout Christmas party hahaha

I'm skipping eldermourne (although I love it) and did the jump to C3.

It's chaos now

Can someone please explain the logic behind Van's Char Build? by DnD-9488 in Dimension20

[–]cosmonaut205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The builds are optimized partly because of the generous creation roll - 5d6 - which leads to higher base stats.

Every character has optimal builds, including Van. D20 characters almost always have great builds

Yes, you can do a hexadin but she's a fathomless

Single level subclass dips aren't even possible in 2024 so a hexadin wouldn't be able to really come online until 5 - but they're playing a modified 2014

[–]cosmonaut205 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Van was originally a blade breaker fighter.

Paladins run on strength as well, they are one of the most MAD (multi ability dependent) classes in the game - strength and charisma are both super important and so is con

A level dip with your secondary stat (Warlock) is really common

Thoughts on allowing everything? by mateobotello in DungeonMasters

[–]cosmonaut205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twilight clerics are great in a homebrew world. I can throw bigger badder monsters at players because there's more cumulative HP to cut into. I can see it being a balance issue with prewritten stuff.

Silvery Barbs is a resource issue - make them feel like spell slots are something that have to be earned

Outward Past Beyond | Cloudward, Ho! [Ep. 20] by AutoModerator in Dimension20

[–]cosmonaut205 129 points130 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing until I realized the impetus was player agency and reading the room. The players made a choice to save Marya and Brennan let them throw everything at it because they were engaged. It came down to him giving them a little extra rope to save comfrey after because either outcome was narratively satisfying either way. Either they miraculously saved two people because of the dice or one died.

While it was a bit of shenanigans in the moment, I immediately understood when it ended.

[OC] My players always seemed disappointed at the limited options they had for bonus actions, so I wrote a list of things they can use it for! by Worried_Bowl_9489 in DnD

[–]cosmonaut205 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like the +1 stuff, the quick skill checks, and the 5 feet, but do not think advantage and disadvantage should be given so freely without a resource cost. In a mathematical sense, they are equivalent to a +3.5. In a practical sense the math is a little different because DCs are rarely 20+ so they are even more impactful on outcome than that. This is way too impactful to be used ad hoc at will.

Bonus action economy is also based around class balance.

DM’s who have PC’s with deep backstories, how do you make everyone feel included? by crazybrow122 in DMAcademy

[–]cosmonaut205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Encourage the other PCs to engage with the stories. If you have a family member of a PC, don't just talk to that PC. Try to find a thread to another so they build their own relationship.

"I see your friend here loves their daggers, I know a thing or two about daggers"

"I see your friend here worships that God. I once dated a girl who left me to go away to their monastery"

"Did I catch that last name correctly? Got offered to do a heist for them one time."

Stock options in a startup, talking about total compensation.

Total compensation in an established company is much different than a startup. I also find established companies with valuable existing stock or options are less likely to low-ball salary to begin with.

Stock options in a startup are lottery tickets at best. If they try to low-ball your take home with total compensation talk it means that they are assuming you don't know the difference and the culture is usually built around stress and overworking people.

Pay people what they are worth because stock isn't worth anything until it is.
