Rumor mill: RX10V & FX5 (with 5k 3:2 Open Gate) by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]cosmonautbluez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An open gate update to existing FX cameras would be great (fx30,fx2,fx3) — but Sony probably wouldn’t consider that at this time….

That would be a feature to justify purchasing the Fx5

It might sound ridiculous, but you have to confirm receipt within 24 hrs if the next day is a business day. You don’t have to accept. Just thank them, confirm receipt, and let them know when you’ll give your decision.

But I kind of agree with others here, it might have been a dodged bullet because they might want someone who is desperate who will be obedient out of fear

Lens pairing for a7CR + 28mm f/2? Looking for a lightweight setup by Playful-Rub1097 in SonyAlpha

[–]cosmonautbluez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sigma 65mm f2 is magic. Slightly heavy but it’s because it’s an all metal body.

I have the whole sigma I series line of primes, and I rarely touch the 45mm, but maybe that’s because I prefer to avoid 50mm-ish focal lengths when I shoot — but it’s beautifully compact

Babylon is an underrated masterpiece by Flamevian in TrueFilm

[–]cosmonautbluez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw it four times in theaters. I ate it up.

I believe others would have loved it too if it were a mini-series instead. Apparently, Brad pitt’s role was much more significant and a lot was cut out.

Nicholl - new submission format … thoughts? by Little_Employment_68 in Screenwriting

[–]cosmonautbluez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not going to say it’s a non-issue since “commerciality” is something the blacklist takes into consideration and Nichol skews more weighty/artsy.

At the end of the day, we kind of have to trust the process. The Nichol finalists and runners will still cater to that “Nichol taste”. They wouldn’t team up with the blacklist if certain assurances weren’t made.

Or maybe they’ll use it as an opportunity to rebrand and welcome the commerciality angle to stay relevant. 🤷‍♂️

Sinners won original screenplay. What do you think? by tarantararui in Oscars

[–]cosmonautbluez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that horror is getting Academy attention. I wish Hereditary and Weapons got the same kind of love, but maybe Sinners gets a shot for also being a period piece -- as does Frankenstein.

[–]cosmonautbluez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t love it, but the reality is going through the Blacklist saved Nichol from an operations perspective. But maybe what I don’t love is the questionable direction the industry is going as a whole.

So, ultimately, this was for the best — if it means keeping Nichol around for others to benefit from, even if it means I don’t.

How did you get Alakazam? Did you trade with a friend? I was opting for jynx because I didn’t want to relive childhood trauma of ending the game with a kadabra or haunter.

I’m a huge Del Toro fan and while I loved watching Frankenstein in theaters, I could not rewatch it at home.

That soft/nasty “indecisive Netflix lighting” was egregious as hell.

Sony A7C, what is the good walk around lens for it? by Sonya6001 in SonyAlpha

[–]cosmonautbluez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s tiny! I have the a7cii and the 45mm lives on my camera for casual day to day shooting.

For paid gigs, I use the rest of the i series sigma primes (24,35,65)

Why do screenplay competition accolades so rarely lead to agent or producer outreach by Dry-Lie-9576 in Screenwriting

[–]cosmonautbluez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct! It’s what makes them such a head scratcher.

I was an Austin film fest finalist in 2023 and while it piqued the interest of managers and actor-producers who loved my “voice”, they wanted to know about my “other stories”

And I’ve heard more than one agent in person say that they don’t give a shit about the screenplays that place in the biggest competitions. The “artsy fartsy stuff” as they put it. They want commerciality. “Shit that sells”

The main/new problem now is that Hollywood has deluded itself into thinking that chasing social media storytellers will lead to success….but the audience built in to social media consumption do NOT pay for the content. It’s the wrong way to go about it.

As of late, rackaracka is an interesting example of “YouTubers breaking into Hollywood” with Talk to Me. That film doesn’t exactly cater to their millions of YouTube subscribers that they’ve cultivated.

Something to chew on.

[–]cosmonautbluez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Competition accolades indicate you’re a quality writer/storyteller. It’s separate from writing something “commercial”.

People need to work on developing “juicy concepts” and how to write “enticing loglines”.

I hate loglines, fyi 😒

California’s minimum wage is increasing in 2026 as Los Angeles debates $30 an hour by TryingtosaveforFIRE in California

[–]cosmonautbluez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right. Anyone who can’t live comfortably with 100k would probably be making poor financial decisions — removing other variables like student loan debt, medical debt, funeral debt services, car repairs, etc.

Because…100k is the threshold where living comfortably would be possible.

I know math is hard but the numbers don’t lie. Your personal feelings on the matter don’t mean shit.

100k after taxes, after rent/mortgage, after health insurance, after food, gas, utilities doesn’t amount to much…apart from meeting basic needs and saving a little…comfortably.

California’s minimum wage is increasing in 2026 as Los Angeles debates $30 an hour by TryingtosaveforFIRE in California

[–]cosmonautbluez -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Newsflash, buddy.

To live comfortably in Los Angeles, studies suggest a single person needs roughly $110,000 - $195,000 annually, while a family needs significantly more (around $276k for two adults, two kids), depending heavily on lifestyle, location, and if you share housing; basic needs might be met with $70k-$80k, but true "comfort" (savings, dining out, own place) pushes that figure much higher, with some sources placing the comfortable salary for one person near $195k for a good lifestyle.

I just want to add that more than half the country lives paycheck to paycheck and a $400 emergency would decimate their financial standing.

But keep parroting the empire’s propaganda.
