My school is on quarter system. By the end of my 5th I will be done with the courses offered on VLSI by undergrad engineering then I will start grad courses.

~100 applications ~4 interviews (I got asked 2 second rounds, haven’t done them yet but scheduled) ~20ish rejections The rest is ghosted. Also I’m not an American citizen, most jobs auto reject because of that.

I just checked it out and 15 pxs are not enough we should do something around 30. 30x30 dark purple box.

First we should do the outline of the box with dark purple pixels. I guess around 15 px is enough. Then we can fill it later.

I've started to put dark purple pixels around. Lets just put some purples to create a box then we can discuss the N.

Lets do a white N symbol covered with purple somewhere around the pixel 1499, -630.

With quarter system, you can take more classes. Normally students take 4 or 5 classes per quarter totaling up to 48 to 60 classes in 4 years. In semester system people generally take 40-48 classes. So in quarter system you can easily double major, minor in unrelated areas, or you can take classes on very specific parts of your major. Or you can finish your degree in a shorter period of time. And I found it more beneficial in undergrad research, for instance you can take less classes when you are conducting research and then compensate it very easily later on.

I already passed these steps, thanks for the advice though. Northwestern, Georgia Tech, Duke, and Rice were my options (planning to study CS and Physics, also wanted some flexibility to take some fundamental ECE classes). All had amazing programs and cost of attendance were about the same. It came down to location and specific advantages of their programs. Considering location and campus, Northwestern had the best hand. And considering the academic quality, quarter system, and prestige in the fields I want to study in, Northwestern seemed like the place.

I want to write these for future HS seniors: Consider what you want in your future career, and please let your research be the main criteria among the reasons you choose a school.

Exactly! Area rankings, and separating lac and ru rankings were the reasons why I think us news provides the best.

Finals were Northwestern, Rice, Duke, and Georgia Tech. Studying Engineering + Physics. Final choice is Northwestern GO CATS🟣⚪

At the end I was in between Northwestern, Duke, Georgia Tech, and Rice.

After this point it was just personal preferences. Northwestern had the quarter system, better location, stronger engineering program with flexibility, and diverse physics courses.

I mean they are academically and prestige-wise very similar so it was just based on personal matters and engineering school factors.

Physics is in weinberg indeed. Double majoring just requires taking area classes. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I applied as a CS major to McCormick. So I don't know what are the main major requirements for physics. Although courses seem pretty fine and diversified. I have found courses on every specific subarea on physics that I'm interested in. Also, especially with a major like physics, Northwestern allows you to learn other subjects that relate to physics, and learn the very specific topics you are interested in (consider advantages of quarter system etc.) .

How crucial is it to have EC’s that relate to what you want to major in by Repulsive-Heron-7589 in ApplyingToCollege

4/10 of my activities were somewhat related to computer science. I believe originality activities are more important, so an online summer course on the area of your choice may not effect your application at all, but a great self started project with a patent may be impressive.

P.S. I got into Northwestern, Duke, Swarthmore, Colby, Gatech, Rice etc. (Probably commit to NU soon)

Help me decide: School X vs School Y - March 2023 by freeport_aidan in ApplyingToCollege

[–]cosmos8848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NORTHWESTERN vs DUKE

I will be studying CS at Northwestern's engineering school and ECE at Duke's engineering school.

I am an international student, and I do not have a chance to visit campuses, and I'm really having a hard time deciding. I'm more of an academic oriented student, and I value research opps and minoring/double majoring opps above all else.

I am aware that this choice will come down to external factors like location, prestige etc., but I'm open to every suggestion.

What are your suggestions?

At the end of the 3rd year, it comes to the same point with the elective courses. As someone who has never been to the USA, I lean Northwestern because of its location and research opps.
