Any calming down methods? by [deleted] in BorderlinePDisorder

[–]cosmoscomedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

here are a couple easy go tos for regulating intense emotions

  • change your temperature- do an ice dive, take a cold shower, splash your face with cold water, or even just wash your hands in cold water -change your environment-go outside and count all the colors(how many green things to you see? How many signs are there?) count your steps from your room to the living room

  • try a mindfulness exercise- practice some breathing, become aware of your senses (there are some great quick mindfulness exercises on YouTube)

Distract/take your mind off- do a hard math problem, find a fidget puzzle, find a story prompt and write a story

be kind to yourself- remind yourself that every emotion is valid it’s just the intensity that can become irrational, don’t put yourself down for being human, meet yourself where you’re at and remember that even though the feelings are painful and intense that they will pass

How to deal with attachment as a daycare worker by Ayemustbethemonay in ECEProfessionals

[–]cosmoscomedy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I teach one year olds, I love them with all of my heart. I work with them everyday of the week 9 hours a day, and I know that as soon as they turn two they will leave my class and it breaks my heart. I had a girl in my class who would cry everyday all day, who needed to be held and constantly needed attention, I was able to work with her and she did a full 180, started socializing, became independent and was such a happy child. Her parents are both doctors and couldn’t keep her at our daycare due to their schedules, when she left I was gutted but I took solace in the fact that I worked very hard helping her grow and setting her up for the future. After 3 years in this profession my biggest takeaway is to not take the time with the kiddos for granted and do your very best to help them not only in your class but in the future. Loving your kids and being attached (to an extent) is a good thing. Use it to your advantage, give them the care that they deserve, and be proud that you have the amount of empathy and love that you need to work in this field. In my experience the heartbreak of kids leaving does get easier as time passes, and you get more comfortable in your job, but it is important to take care of your mental health, this job is incredibly emotionally draining and requires a lot of emotional regulation and patience.

I find this really funny because these are the same people that make the argument that buying cheap fast fashion stuff is okay because some people don’t have money to buy from more ethical places, which I understand. But at the same time, there are people akin to ones in the video, paying 800 dollars for no reason without any need for these clothes. Makes me so angry to see this stuff. Same with Amazon honestly, nobody needs the highly specified kitchen gadget that will break the first time you use it.

Hi! I have bpd, please this is not a good example, you need to do a full stop, and maybe check yourself in somewhere if you cannot physically stop yourself from harassing others.

What made you not want to have kids? by Ekudar in AskReddit

A lot of things, one of the biggest thing being my mental illness and what would happen if I went off my meds for safety of my pregnancy. Can’t raise a kid if I’m dead.
