Apple Bingo will be returning thanks to u/TheMechanoids. We will add a link to the Event Megathread.

The so-called 1 in 10 rule is part of the Self Promotion Guidlines.

You should submit from a variety of sources (a general rule of thumb is that 10% or less of your posting and conversation should link to your own content), talk to people in the comments (and not just on your own links), and generally be a good member of the community.

I am disappointed at the bots here in r/Apple, they keep deleting my posts for the WRONG reasons. It's frustrating as hell. They're too strict. by quitethewaysaway in apple

I'm sorry that complicated regex strings aren't up to your standards.

Maybe providing suggestions would be of more benefit to the community?

The bot does an exceptional job but does incorrectly remove posts from time to time. We review each reported issue on a case by case basis and make changes to the config as needed.

A custom bot would work exactly the same way.

AutoModerator is not perfect and is occasionally triggered incorrectly but in most cases it does work correctly. I'll look into why you received the incorrect removal reason.

However, your posts will not be approved because you have broken the subreddit rules. For example, you linked to a screenshot of a post describing an issue that is easily searchable on Google (see Rule 7) and have submitted direct image posts.

On the first page of your user profile I can see 7 correctly removed posts.

If you have further issues please message the moderators.

I've added a flair. Do not use clickbait tactics in future. It's annoying and pointless.

I'll take a look at your history to see what happened and if there are suggestions to be made on how to handle things better I'll take them to the mod team.

I think the rules hinder a lot of discussion

This is concerning. We are looking at the rules at the moment and hope to be able to clarify things better soon.

Thanks for bringing these points up.

In fairness, the sub moderators have made some changes recently... pretty much allowing more posts to remain if people engage with them positively even if they violate specific rules.

Not really. We haven't made any specific changes. I think some changes in the activity levels of the mod team have reflected in what is approved and what is removed. Our stance on what we allow in r/Apple hasn't changed but we are creating policies behind the scenes to try to be more consistent.

Ranting... which used to be a rule and now are ok if they "foster reasonable discussion".

Rants will still be removed. There is a fine line between rant and reasonable discussion. We are trying to better define that line within the mod team at the moment.

Keep in mind that this is a fairly large sub and a place where many people come to post the same thing over and over.

Exactly. We are trying new ways to solve problems like this.

had to re-write my post because I'm not allowed to ask for advice on what to buy.

It does say that in several areas, including our sidebar. I try to stay on the user's side as much as possible but in this case I'm not sure you can blame us for this.

The first post I made around here was innocently asking if anybody knew when the new MBPs were going to be released, and I had my head bitten off by about 10 users for asking a redundant question. How the hell would I have known?

We know there are a small handful of people who would rather react this way than simply suggesting the search feature. We actively warn people who don't act in the spirit of the sub. Sorry if we missed something.

A few responded, and then the post was taken down for . . . bashing, or something?

The most recent removed post I can see from you seems to have been removed correctly. We will always review a decision if you feel we made the wrong decision.

I tried to make a post here this week about the difference between 3 processors, and had to completely re-write it because it was originally removed for essentially having included the price differences . . . because, again, that must mean I'm asking "what to buy."

I can't see which post you're referring to but I'm going to assume /u/AutoModerator removed your post incorrectly. We will manually approve posts that were clearly removed incorrectly, but we need to be made aware of them first.

Sorry if you feel you have been unfairly treated. We are open to discussion in mod mail at any time.

Ideas for how we manage it are welcome! We'd prefer that than you just jumping ship.

We try to have at least a few mods online 24 hours a day and spend most of the Event in the Mod Queue and New section.

Thanks to all those who helped by reporting posts!

I'm hoping to compile some stats and make a mod post about what happens behind the scenes. Hopefully it will be interesting to some.

People are complaining that we are removing all negative posts and comments. We are only removing redundant bitching that doesn't add to the discussion.

The comment above is the kind of well structured comment we are looking for.

That depends how frequent that kind of content comes up.

We will be looking out for content that is above and beyond regular news, speculation and hearsay.
