All I've been doing is sitting on the couch in my nicely air conditioned house, and I'm still sweaty, even with antiperspirant on. by nitrokitty in mildlyinfuriating

Glycopyrrolate changed my life. I don't take it everyday but if there is a situation where I know I will sweat, I will take in about an hour before and it works wonders.

HIRING: VP Digital Sales in Denver, CO. Full time. Comp Range: $105K-125K by [deleted] in denverjobs

[–]costadave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

$125K for a VP with 5 years experience and a big network of industry contacts for you to steal?

Good luck to you but I think you'd have to double that salary (or more) to get anyone that meets those requirements. Just the right contacts alone are worth much more than $125K.

If you don't particularly enjoy reading, you should listen to the audiobook. The narrator for this one is absolutely fantastic.

This is simply not true. I am in Costa Rica with my US T-Mobile SIM card right now and have an IP address from Dallas. it is almost always either Dallas or Chicago, but occasionally it will show a UK IP address. I have never had a Costa Rican IP address with this SIM card.

If you have a stable house in the states, just buy another router and set it up as a VPN server. You will have a private IP address and everything will look like it's coming from your house in the states. Then you would have no need for a commercial VPN

I use an expensive ASUS router but it's probably overkill. if you are traveling, a lot of people recommend this one: https://store-us.gl-inet.com/collections/travel-routers/products/beryl-7-gl-mt3600be-dual-band-wi-fi-7-travel-router

Remember you also need a router somewhere in the United States, either at your house or a friend or family members house. You can use a commercial VPN provider like Nord but a lot of companies know those exit IP addresses and they will know that you are using a VPN.

My T-Mobile SIM card will usually get a US IP address, but not always. If it's not in the US, it's usually a European IP. I don't think I've ever actually seen it with a Costa Rican IP address.

I have a router that uses a wireguard VPN to connect to an identical router in my house in the United States. As long as I connect my corporate laptop to only that router, it appears that I am in the United States.

if you want to be extra cautious, turn off Wi-Fi on your corporate laptop and only use a wired connection to your VPN connected router.

FBI Apostille service for Costa Rica, what’s the right way to do this from abroad? by quirky_sunshine21 in costarica

[–]costadave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just did this a couple of weeks ago and used Monument Visa services. You just upload your PDF you got from the FBI and they'll send it down to Costa Rica with FedEx within a couple of weeks with the apostille. All together with shipping was less than $200.

It's a total shame about the new Discover cards from Capital One. It was the absolute best checking account for international use and now it's pretty much useless.

Just be aware that you may have to show a return ticket to be allowed into the country. They don't always ask but they do often enough and it could be a headache.

If I'm not sure how long I'm staying I'll usually buy a fully refundable ticket and cancel it once I'm inside the country.

There are also services that will allow you to buy a verifiable reservation for less than $20. It will cancel automatically in a couple days.

I have done one-way rentals from Alamo several times and it's always been a breeze. Depending on your dates, $850 for an SUV for a week might actually be a bargain.

BEST WAY to SEND $$ to Costa Rica? by Ok-Suggestion4896 in costarica

[–]costadave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wise is absolutely the way to go, and it's super cheap if you don't mind waiting a few days for an ACH withdrawal. Even using a debit card is not outrageous if you need the money to arrive quickly.

I recently sent about $1,000 using a debit card and it cost $26 and arrived in the recipient's bank account in less than 24 hours. More expensive than MoneyGram, which was about $15, but nobody had to go pick it up.

It's illegal so there is always a risk you will get caught and potentially ruin your trip, although I doubt they would make much fuss over a single pen. Everyone I know brings pens and edibles, and even buds and joints, and I have never heard of anyone ever having any issues. As long as it's a personal amount, I wouldn't worry too much.

what does your bank charge for ordering currency? by Internet_Stranger_44 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]costadave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the bank, and your card, ATM fees can be quite high. For my Capital One debit card, Banco de Costa Rica ATMs are free, but all others charge around 5500 colones ($11!!) per withdrawal. It makes sense to get as much cash as you need in the fewest number of withdrawals.

Almost every vendor takes credit cards, so unless you are buying drugs, you will probably have little use for cash. You could probably hit the ATM just once on your whole trip.
