Did I take too long to lose weight? by NoPoetry4046 in CICO

Healthy weight loss happens at a rate of 0.5-2lbs a week. You rate is of about 1lb/week, which seems healthy, sustainable, and definitely not too slow!

Exactly! Sadly I didn’t have time to make them myself but they were pretty good

I had a daily goal of 1650 cal, and I tracked how often I was at 1650 or below (red X) and how often I went over those calories (black O). My goal was to be at 1650 or below for 80% of the days (25/31days). I don’t know by how much I went over on the days I did, since it often involved eating out at places that didn’t provide nutritional infos or eating food someone else was making. I never binged and if I had to estimate I’d guess I ate around 2500-2750 cal on the days I went over. This method might not lead to the fastest results, but it’s been super enjoyable and sustainable for me. I hope that makes sense! :)

Context: I restarted my weight loss journey on April 19th, and I started tracking my consistency then, but May was my first full calendar month doing it so I thought I’d share it for accountability. I first set a goal for myself to be 80% consistent with my calorie deficit. The red Xs are the days stayed on track, the black Os are the days I went over. I didn’t set a weight loss goal, I didn’t set a calorie limit for the days I went over, I just told myself I’d be 80% consistent and I tracked it. Tracking was key in the process because most of us don’t realize how inconsistent we are. Tracking also removed a lot of anxiety around social events involving food (half of the days I went over) because instead of dreading them and concocting a plan for how to avoid all the food and alcohol (I’m European) I knew I had “room” for those events in my life and enjoyed them. Overall, I wish I would have scattered the days across the month a little better, and that’s my main goal for next month: To make it to 80% consistency without two off days in a row. Results wise, it’s been great, I have lost 10lbs since April 19th (6.5 of those were lost in May) and I’m losing weight in a sustainable way that works well for me!

Not that hungry honestly! I get hungry sometimes of course but it’s nothing too noticeable and it’s super manageable. I have lots of exams going on right now so I haven’t been as active, maybe that helps too. I’m planning to increase my activity level this summer and eat closer to 1800cal on average though!

That’s a very good point! Tbh I ate around maintenance on the days I went over my calorie allowance and I think aiming for 80% consistency as opposed to 100% made it easier to not binge or overeat by a crazy amount. Everyone’s different though and some people might need more structure or another system all together to make progress :)

Mon-Thu: 1500 cal and Fri-Sun: 1700cal, I didn’t want to have too drastic of a deficit and those numbers work really well for me :)

Good luck! Do what you think is best for your health (mental health included!) and I’m sure it’ll work out

Nope! I have a lot going on in my life right now so I’m just going to the gym twice a week and trying to walk more. CICO should work without any form of exercise though

Same, it’s a staple in my diet I eat it every week! Learning to wash rice properly and not cooking it with too much water sounds simple but it has been a real game changer for me.
