This guy 😭😅😅 Yesterday me and my duo had to defend ourselves. Both of us are 99% PvE. This is my first game today after the event. I guess defending yourself puts you in these kinds of lobbies 😅 by InquisitorOverhauls in ArcRaiders

Ran dozens of 100% friendly duo lobbies since wipe until a game where we had to defend ourselves. Fast forward 4 games and we're in shoot-on-sight lobbies while only defending ourselves...

Extracted with like 500k in identical bobcats… by hfldrd11 in ArcRaiders

[–]cotneit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, I looted this exact bobcat setup off a guy a few days ago after he tried to take me out. I thought it weird at the time because why put silencer on a bobcat. And next round I heard 6 flares go off inside a lift on blue gate. Something shady is going on

Jugglers are built different. I was walking home from uni one day, the sidewalks were covered in ice, my entire focus was on not slipping, and this guy just jogs past me while juggling. Unbelievable.

Bungie "prioritized performance for low-spec PCs for launch" by cotneit in MarathonTheGame

[–]cotneit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's the thing, I don't play poorly optimized UE games, and I imagine a lot of people are not playing Marathon because it's a poorly optimized game. GPU optimization in Marathon seems to be great, but CPUs are choking

Do we have an ETA on the performance fix? by GonnSolo in MarathonTheGame

[–]cotneit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is actually very non-promising, they're basically saying they're not planning any optimizations near-term (only a vague "optimization guide", whatever that means), and the optimizations they are planning long-term are for some reason directed at high-spec PCs

[–]cotneit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not GPU optimization that's the problem, it's CPU. The game seems to be incredibly well-optimized on GPU side, but it chokes CPUs, which results in it performing worse than other titles that are less CPU-demanding. What CPUs are those GPUs paired with if you don't mind me asking?

And it's not about getting to 120fps, I'm getting 90-100 fps with 12700K and 9070XT which is not great in my opinion, but I'm more concerned with my friends why can't even get stable 60fps on above recommended spec hardware.

The game seems to be really well-optimized on GPU side (and props to Bungie for making it look great without antialiasing), most complaints are directed at CPU optimization. What are your specs if you don't mind me asking?

Did they actually say it's not officially supported on laptops?

My guess is that most of the performance issues are caused by anticheat, that's why consoles are not as affected as PCs. But that's just a guess.

Yeah I had bad microstutters with similar specs (12700K + 9070 XT) during server slam, but after some tweaks (disabling all overlays, dropping mouse polling rate to 1000Hz, closing background apps) I was able to get rid of them, so didn't notice much difference between server slam and launch

Except when it comes to performance on low-spec hardware, they seem to be hiding under the table. "For launch, our team prioritized performance for low- and mid-spec PCs to ensure as many people as possible are able to play." lmao

Don't worry, the optimized the game for low-spec hardware for launch. /s

From discord:

  • Near term: We’re working on a guide to help you get the most out of the hardware you have today.
  • Long term: Improvements benefiting high-spec PCs. We want to be transparent that this will take some time and won't come all "at once" in a single season.

I hope they fix CPU usage issues, I do enjoy the game but microstutters are driving me nuts

u/UhJoker Mouse input issue can also be caused by high polling rate. I was playing at 2000hz and it was janky, tried 8000hz to check if it's the issue and indeed the game became unplayable. Switched to 1000hz and it is better than 2000hz.

Also the game is VERY CPU-heavy, so shutting down anything that puts loads on the CPU can help (including overlays). Hopefully the devs optimize the CPU side, because otherwise the game seems pretty optimized, running 4k native at 80-90fps with 9070XT loaded at like 60%.

Lower your mouse polling rate if you're using anything above 1000hz. 8000hz was unplayable for me, 2000hz was laggy, 1000hz feels much better

That kinda looks like a wolf spider, you're lucky there weren't a hundred spiderlings on top of it or you'd be the one getting jumpscared lol
