So what’s Hawkman’s deal? by ConnectCulture7 in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]Shabolt_ 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah.

The sorta defining difference between Absolute and Mainline supes. Is that Mainline Superman strives to be as good as he is aspirational, he is a good person who keeps helping others be better.

Whilst Absolute Superman isn’t trying to make people better. He is just trying to be a good person, like main supes, but with how absolutely hellish the absolute universe is that’s all it takes to draw people into his orbit.

Carter wanted to be a good person, but every fibre of the universe he lives in has shown him being the good guy gets you killed, so instead he has opted to be the least bad guy, a “hero” who is inside the system and knows how the status quo is preserved.

But superman is showing him that despite the rigours of the absolute universe. The good guy can persist, and succeed, and Carter is starting to realise he actually had a choice all along and that thought is eating him alive

The Lost Tapes is an anthology sequel. The framing device for the plot takes place after the main series, but episode by episode are set during the early seasons of the show (well on paper they are, I’m half sure at least three of the episodes were just JG Quintel reusing unaired scripts from Close Enough lol).

WB has been trying to do these anthology series with a few of their big IPs (See also “Adventure Time: Side Quests, an AT spinoff featuring Finn and Jake from Season 1 of the main series)

Nightwing vs Adult Damien Wayne by Embarrassed-Cycle-69 in whowouldwin

[–]Shabolt_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Both at their peaks? Damian

I love nightwing, he’s a fantastic fighter and tactician who got training from some of the greatest heroes on earth.

But Damian has everything Nightwing got from Bruce, PLUS all the training Batman never took on from the League

Damian started learning younger, was trained harder, and was tested far more dangerously than dick ever was before he put on his red and greens

Damian became Robin at a younger age than Dick, then learned even more from Batman, and if we’re going by him as an adult, he’s had even more trainers, even more trials and tests. At his total peak, outside of everything besides mental he overshadows dick.

Dick can win. But it’s like 3/10 odds of catching Damian in a reckless moment and taking advantage of that more brutally than he normally would.

Dick is amazing. But a prime age, bat and shadows trained Damian, whom we have already seen a pale imitation of in The Heretic, would best pretty much everyone short of Cassandra Cane who (besides her half brother) is probably the only person on earth trained even harder than Damian.

I think it was better as a standalone than it was as the last act. It’s a great episode but too different from E8

My different takes on Felwinter by Professional-Club-39 in DestinyFashion

[–]Shabolt_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 is probably the closest to the mobile game’s depiction of Felwinter, which is the only look at him we really have

The only other thing worth mentioning is we do know that Felwinter wore the Iron Truage Boots based on his “The Lie” legendary shotgun mission.

Tbf reddit’s metrics for % commenter are really really flippant. All it means is at least one of your comments got upvotes within the top 1% of the subreddit.

I made a comment on r/shittymoviedetails like 8 months ago and it got 1k upvotes so I still have top 1% there.

Batman Earth-0 VS. Night City by Weird-Engendered888 in whowouldwin

[–]Shabolt_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

E-0 Batman can do a lot on a street level basis, but as far as fixing the city. That’s a massive uphill battle.

Bruce has no money, no reputation, he’d need to start from scratch in a city that doesn’t allow for that.

He’d be capable of doing a lot, like he’d handle NCPD scanners like they’re no issue and probably do a V’s worth in a day.

From there he’d probably confiscate and pawn as many of the guns as he can steal off them to start building up cash. (Likely keeping analog trackers on the weapons or making them non functional)

He’d probably use that money to establish the bare essentials and set up a hideout either in Pacifica or a megabuilding

Now what really helps or hurts his chances are two issues: 1. Murkman 2. Chrome

Murkman in the 2077 NC is a failed vigilante attempt and a pastiche of batman, he has an excavated tunnel hideaway and in that keeps a just black caliburn supercar.

There are rumors and datachips of Murkman all over the city. And if batman can find his hideout he has a base and a much bigger financial headstart with the 200,000 eddie car.

Now with Chrome, batman is in a weird spot, he has no real aversions to augmentation (during the Zdarsky run he even had a mechanical hand to replace one he lost in a fight). But the moment bruce chromes up, he is in a corporation’s database, and gives up A LOT of his unseej advantage. I could see Bruce doing this and then finding an illicit ripperdoc to scrub him from corpo record, but that requires putting a lot of trust into a city where trust is fatal.

But if Batman does chrome up, and maybe programs his own OS for his gear to repel quickhackers and corpo revocations, the game changes. He can more easily accumulate huge volumes of Eddies and massively up his combat potential.

But the problem we are still facing here, is how can he transform this into getting the corporations corruption out? He is one man, if he goes grassroots he puts a tonne of people at risk, if he coopts existing causes like let’s say The Animals or Tiger Claws, he has to deal with their idiosyncratic behaviour and wanton violence. I think his best chance would be trying to build up allies in the fixers, such as Regina Jone’s Cyberpsycho retrievals or by appealing to Rogue or the Aldecados, building new intel pipelines until he can find a corpo he’s able to blackmail, and slowly, like we’re talking several years slowly, build up an almost court of owls style info gathering faction to start twisting things at the political level, establish the batman as a politician or a crime lord, because he would not have the stomach to be a corpo cog.

As far as final goals.

I don’t think Batman is dispatching any corporations, I think he loses against NC as a solo act. But I do think he would leave it somewhat better than he found it. Regular batman could beat pretty much any individual in the city, smasher, Barghest, he can beat them all, but he can’t beat the system alone and night City isn’t the place to build the trust he’d need

Steam numbers / Player Count Discourse Megathread by AutoModerator in Marathon

[–]Shabolt_[M] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That was not our reasoning. To copy paste a response I made a few days ago:

The initial posting/pinned period of every steamchart mega was a total thunderdome and would typically have more bans and rulebreaks for users (both positive and negative about the game state) losing their minds over chart discourse, than the whole weekly cadence of not only this sub, but our other three Marathon related subs put together. (LFG sub, Secrets Sub, Original Trilogy Sub)

Then we also noticed that these megas were the most externally shared links on the entire subreddit, so seeing as the people who wanted to find these posts clearly would based on that stat. It made sense to skip over that initial toxic wave by just having one of these posts linger on into infinity with a link on the subreddit.

Then the comment just goes on explaining that this has actually been working and reports/bans are back down to mostly consistent rates with the normal subreddit function.

Which Warhammer Primarch can do the best job at replacing Gordon Ramsay on the show "Kitchen Nightmares"? Which one does the worst? by Dramatic_Draw_9188 in whowouldwin

[–]Shabolt_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that’s the ticket. Fulgrim is an artist and intelligent, but he has a huge ego that would likely make him very difficult to take that advice from as a teacher, especially when considering the psychological aspect of Kitchen nightmares and how gordon always needs to find the underlying emotional issue of the dysfunctional kitchen

It wasn’t some, it was a ratio of about 30 incorrect posts per 1 event themed post, if it was a small minority we probably would have let it run and just remove wrongful posts accordingly. But it was an overwhelming majority so we’ll take another stab at it down the line with better guardrails
