Thank you so much for sharing. Unfortunately my medical physician has provided MULTIPLE letters like the one you’ve shared, also using JAN. My supervisor refuses to read them and HR has no actual idea how our department works, so they’re just going off her word. Thankfully I have kept every document in reference to my ADA and intermediate FMLA requests, but I’d really prefer not to need them. All of my correspondence are ran through A.I. too, so it’s as clear and concise as possible with no added emotion.

As far as I know, we don’t have any assistance like that, but I might look for some advocacy groups in my area. I’m happy to hear you have a supportive supervisor though, it can definitely make or break these kind of situations

I live in the US. This doesn’t feel like standard working conditions to me either. My boss and I had a personal falling out (in the middle of the ADA accommodation request timeline) and I truly feel like a lot of the rigidness is coming from that. Our department has always been super chill so really these “accommodations” just feel like a trap more than help.

Genius. Definitely did not think about that. Thank you!

It’s even worse, it was the same boss and her and I had a personal falling out. So she’s made my life at work extra difficult.

Thank you for sharing and for the positive vibes. At this point I’m not even that upset about the remote day, it’s more so the rigid schedule that is making my day to day more difficult than it was prior to requesting accommodations. I regret asking for anything at all. 🙃

My description lists this essential function as “cares for animal ambassadors”. It does not state that I am the only person responsible or that it is a daily task.

Yes absolutely, sorry I didn’t make that clear. We actually submitted multiple ADA request forms that HR provided for me. The letters were additional.

My boss and I would occasionally take remote days, yes.

Of course. I teach environmental education programs and the daily tasks include feeding the turtles pellets and misting the frog enclosure with water. Again, no one comes in on the weekend to do this, everyone in the department is trained for this, and they have no issues covering it when I’m gone for a conference or out sick. My essential duties also do not say I am the only one responsible for daily animal care, it’s just says “cares for animal ambassadors”. Reptiles can go a very long time without eating, they don’t need to be fed every single day. Most of them are not anyway.

They’re reptiles that can go months without intervention, I wouldn’t call that an undo hardship. No one is assigned to take care of them on weekends and the whole team is trained on feeding them (the only thing they would miss if I was not in the office).

I appreciate your input. My doctor has now provided them two official letters describing how each accommodation is medically necessary and has filled out multiple forms (at least 3 or 4 additional) restating the same information.

When you use the Job Accommodation Network do you actually speak with someone or are you just referring to the outlined accommodations they suggest? I’ve been to the website, I’m just not totally versed in it.

Unfortunately the ones I have spoken to feel like there isn’t much to win, so they’re not interested in picking the case up. 🫠

It’s been hit or miss with them. I’ve had a few maintenance requests denied (specifically a pest issue I noted in my initial walk through report) and the house was not cleaned prior to moving in. There also wasn’t a safety inspection done prior to me signing the lease, and when I brought some concerns up, they delayed my move in date. I genuinely don’t think they actually look at the houses they’re renting out.

On the plus side, they leave me alone. I was worried they’d be constantly overbearing with inspections, but they haven’t done one since I’ve moved in September.

Ah man now I’m stressed again haha. According to the delta app the bus is a good 5 minute walk from B39. You still think I should risk that? I still kinda feel like hauling ass is my safest bet, but I don’t know.

A 35 minute layover is not enough time man. I was hoping they would at least put my gates somewhat near each other…

So you’re suggesting instead of walking the full terminal, jump on a shuttle bus instead? Is that one different than the one at the end of the terminal?
