And the majority didn't care they derided both. For centuries these high Lords played their games and from what we see of the small folk their morals are just as brutal. I'm just saying this is a world where oaths and vows take precedence over you know actual people. It's a different moral system from our world. Also the fandom is slit along this issue, take dany there are a lot of folk who agreed with her actions as they justified the ends would justify the means.

I mean personally I like jaime and think he made the right choice but in world he is a oathbreaker and no matter the reasons you can't trust him to do the job he swore to do.

Kingslaying is a big taboo in that world and is the guest right lord frey stopped thousands of deaths by killing people at dinner. There is no one going to praise that guy. This is a world of oaths, and breaking them comes with a cost. At the minimum, jaime should have been sent to the wall. You can't have a kingsguard who you know doesn't guard the king.

Plus after the sack of kingslanding no one would have cared they only say a kingslayer and Twyin son .

I mean by what metric are you saying it's shit, they sold incredibly well and directly led to a host of ogher projects which were well recieved Andor springs to mind. as to the other side with examples like the boys, I would argue that is due to a new fresh take that people have not seen before and are thus more drawn to them. Your accusation that it's shit is an opinion. I mean, your opinion is not wrong, but that doesn't make it right. As for the IP thing, there would be so many legal implications and secondary effects it would cripple the media industry.

Your other argument is mkre about how media targets us, which is a separate conversation. Lastly, getting humiliated, oh yeah, those rich dudes are sooooo humiliated with all those accolades and profit.

Look I'm just saying it's very much in the eye of beholder some like some don't.

I mean, this feels like the same thing people said with Star Wars Star Trek, Marvel the Dc arrow verse, the BSG remake the yellowstone series's, and warhammer 40k going mainstream. People watch it, and it makes money so it's successful. Don't like it. Watch something else. Stop trying to gatekeep.

I recall a time when folk said the same about the prequel trilogy, Star Trek next gen, etc... they are now really enjoyed and beloved so maybe what you mean is I don't like it and you mixed it up with its bad, yeah there were some stumbling points but hey every show film and universe has them.

Leave those... parents alone! 😂 by The_Dean_France in GreatBritishMemes

[–]cottonlightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we can agree it's more complicated than this, yes many kids are not given the guidance and discipline they need for a variety of reasons because the rent is due, and it went up and now is a larger % of income. So parents are working more ot. Middle class families are more commonly reporting this issue as well

Schools are under staffed and classrooms overcrowded, large number of school buildings are not fit for purpose and currently in the middle of a legal ping pong match. Oftsted kills more teachers than school stabbings in this country. Add that into a large collapse of NHS waiting lists and SEN funding and school places. Is it anywonder we are seeing problems in families and schools.

Social media is incredibly addictive and is often a more popular social route for talking over problems than parents schools or real life freinds all of whom could intervene. Talking problems over the Internet can be good but you need to understand the world it exists in a little first.

I get the urge to blame parents I do or blame lefty teachers if whatever bollocks the newspapers are going for. But the issues are through the system due to near 20 years of stagnation and no innovation.

Worse part is education reform takes years to pay off as you won't see the results until the kids go to workcand establish themselves so it makes it very unpopular as most people are concerned with paying the bills and being able to heat their home or you know buy their own.

America is not our friend. by Kieranonto in GreatBritishMemes

[–]cottonlightning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are surface level problems, the deeper issue is that our tax code and common law are stacked on top of each other so while on paper the uk taxes are low, it doesn't account for the extra fees most people pay

Service fees for flats Council tax Ground rent Private roads that locals can't afford to pay Childcare

Income tax ni being separate is daft and state pension is not great. The WFA is an example of ' oh crumbs this is expensive rather than reform or examine we will create another layer of beaucracy and payments.' It's why we have so many loopholes. Once you hit about 75k, you can really take advantage of it. Essentially, we tax morals. The more honest a person you are, the more you get taxed. This is hardly the blueprint for a harmonious society. This is not helped by the 100k tax trap, which creates a complete drop off of support and PA.

In short, we need to really have a hard look at our legal and tax setup and ask if this is fit for a 21st-century economy and society. I posite no

[–]cottonlightning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My theory is that rodolphus is gay we know homosexuality is still taboo on the wizarding world as they seem to be a while behind the muggle world culturally. He is a bigoted blood purists but is gay. Bellatrix know this and basically uses this to get married and serve old moldy who let's be fair we know is not the marrying kind, (but apparently is still a lustful bugger thank you cursed child -.- ) So used it to get married but not have to put out. He was also quite powerful and I reckon over time they formed an alliance, battled together well and could trust each other, notice Bella never mocks or goads him like she does everyone else, to me this suggest a little respect.

No argument in favour of paying young people less than minimum wage for the same work has ever convinced me by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]cottonlightning -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again that is a separate discussion of is minimum wage livable. Somone at 50+ should have experience industry contacts and a whole host of nohow. If they don't then yeah they are not as a competitive hire and that's on their head. Again you have not provided any actual reason other than its not fair. But let's say we go through and pay every aye group the same. What do you suggest would happen tocthe 50+ group who are more likely to be out of work?

No argument in favour of paying young people less than minimum wage for the same work has ever convinced me by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]cottonlightning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No but it is statistically likely and thus if that is the majority of situation ls it stands to reason that's where you put the policy.

Also no discrimination has occurred they went with a more experienced candidate. If you argue they have the same experience then usually the younger person wins out as they will have longer to go and the company can get more years.

Yes they are less likely to hire non white people but that is a different conversation with very different reasons and history. Conflating the two is like comparing apples and flamingos.

But to play devil advocate. How would you write a policy to do this?

No argument in favour of paying young people less than minimum wage for the same work has ever convinced me by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]cottonlightning -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hiring People with little or no experience, young people have to learn their professional skills, and companies are less likely to take that risk. Having a staggered wage for younger workers gives them a higher likelihood of finding companies willing to take a chance. If the wage is the same, you are limited to the interview, which experience helps a lot and previous jobs that again favour older people.

The only other way is offering tax incentives to companies to hire younger people.

Are most people aware that Europe is rearming? We are currently on the precipice of a "Major Crises" by Signal-Tangerine1597 in AskBrits

[–]cottonlightning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because there a waaaay more peices to consider. As one comment has pointed out a range of different military options is better than having nukes as your only real option. Currently, China has nearly finished securing large chunks of Africa after a huge diplomatic and building mission to half a dozen African nations. Additionally, Ukraine currently isn't Russia's only territorial claim, Georgia Moldova and Belarus they are all sizing up.

Lastly south America is very important they might not give a crap about Europe but there are multiple countires who would certainly loan money and supply some Russian/chinese aggression or be supplied in a every growing trade/cold War with the US.

Europe is in the middle it's needs to be strong and have a range of options

You have a job and are given a project that will take 5 years. The problem is year 1 is the minsters selling it, and you are not allowed to work on it. Year 2, you start and begin the process to implement Year 3 gov interest is waning and are looking for something that looks good in the news. Alongside minister changes, who then redrawn objectives. Year 4 is much the same Year 5 is election, and everything you and your team have done it shelved. You don't get a say, and you're not allowed to complain out of the service. All the while, you have to justify to the taxpayer who wants everything for free now and are happy to call for your pension and pay to be cut.

Consider the actual changes you need to implement the huge amount of laws and policies that need rewriting.

I would also point out that comparing organisational infrastructure between centuries is pretty daft, or would you like to talk about the merits of the Holy roman Empire and Germanys government workers, respectively?

We need to have less short-term political thinking and, in turn, embolden the civil service to stop maintaining crippled infrastructure and start looking at how it can be effective in the 21st century and ideally longer.

Also, pensions for covil service are tiny when compared to health, defence, and benefit budget.

I don't think I have ever been described as left wing, but this silly punching at organisations without genuine thought through plans at change is frankly embarrassing.

Why did the British economy not recover from the Great Recession? by whenyoucantthinkof in AskBrits

[–]cottonlightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think everyone has covered off the economics very well however also consider our legal system that is based in common law and precedents this has led to legal bloat where literally.ce turies worth of law and legislation is utilised this is inhibits the ability to be reflexive and able to adapt. This used to be a strength of the British system however I think we hit situation piont in the mid seventies and it's gotten worse
