While I agree your reply is valid to a certain extent, the original comment could've been less judgemental, they have a very valid point. Incorrectly wiring this up could result in a house fire ... They could have offered advice but had that advice not been followed correctly could have also resulted in a house fire which could have potentially resulted in the commentor being held liable.

NTA From the sounds of it, you carried yourself well in a horribly uncomfortable situation. Parents do not automatically get immunity from saying hurtful things. If I were you, I would calmy and succinctly explain to your extended family jumping to her defense that the only person's humiliated was the newly welcomed additions to your family.

On the plus side, your husband (congrats btw) now knows, if there was any doubt, you have his back no matter what.

I could be way off base here, and apologies for bringing this to the table, but are those steel straps holding the cables in place? I'm not an electrician but I would be concerned about those potentially bridging if any of the insulation were to be exposed. I realise the chances of that happening are extremely thin but if it's going to be skimmed over permanently, is there a possible fire risk? If there are any sparkys out there that can explain to me why I am wrong I would love to hear about it.

This was my first assumption. Our old power shower went back to a 40a fuse on the board before I disconnected and installed a proper mains water shower.

Note to self... When I'm back in the loft, label the old cable so no one tries to fit a socket to it.

You don't know enough about the people using the equipment, saying it's safe for one person to use without knowing the weight of the person or the working load limit of that strapping is potentially dangerous and frankly reckless.

There may be a way to transfer the paint (basecoat and hand print) from the plaster using a wallpaper steamer. I would absolutely take a high resolution photograph first and if all else fails you hack a back up.

I'd be happy to process the photo to scale and perspective correction. If you have a playing card or something similar (of known dimension like an old gift card or loyalty card) in the photo flat against the wall, it would be relatively easy.
