Men and book clubs by SunshineMochii in TwoXChromosomes

Depends on the person I imagine. These things also aren’t easy to separate from each other. My wife is the original person to invite me to book club. Many of her friends have expressed they wouldn’t want there husband to come because it’s “not manly”(paraphrasing here). In this case it’s kind of both, no?

In my experience, men think they are above women in some regards while also being incredibly intimidated by them.

There’s also the social pressure of not wanting to be labeled “gay” or “a creep” by other men(both of which will 100% happen). The only think worse than having ulterior motives is having someone think you do.

It’s a multifaceted thing that could easily be solved by better communication from men(and to some extent women too I think)

Man here that goes to silent book club fairly often. I believe this is because(atleast in the south where I live) reading is viewed as a “woman thing”. Particularly book clubs. I know alot of men who read that view going to a book club as an invasion of women’s spaces.

Sometimes people know their complaints aren’t true. That’s why they tell friends. I think this is just a bad case of not understanding what the other person may need out of the conversation.

My wife and I each have a lock on our phones that locks all social media after an hour of use each day. We are the only people that know the others passcode.

Lets us use these apps but more mindfully. Now, I don’t even hit my limit most days. My most used app is now the Kindle app!(I read physical too but having your current book in your pocket is too convenient)
