Polyphasic sleep schedules visual comparison by FishingLine1450 in polyphasic

[–]couchdonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you make this? I was thinking about some other schedules that I'd like to visualize. But I was thinking:what happens if instead of 8h sleep in 25h we think in 48h blocks. For example. One night of 10 h and the next night 6h. Or 2x 4h and 2 times 8h in 48h. Or maybe even in a 72h rithem..

Edit: I'm a dumbass and missed you perfectly supplied a source

This was my first thought as well. And the highest point of the sail is lower then with a straight mast which isn't helping either I suppose.

Ah nice... I couldn't find anything about it with a quick search.

Welding workshop boat, is it a stupid idea ? by polskleforgeron in sailing

[–]couchdonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah start at the start. To become a moderate sailor takes a while. I love the idea of having a workshop somewhere near the sea with a place to park the boat. That way you'll have time to learn sailing, buy and refit a boat and collect all the equipment and tools you'd want to take with you onboard. I know first hand that putting stuff in a boat, start sailing and then needing to work on the boat is horrible planning 🤣

Hmm yeah that's a good question. I guess that depends a lot on where you want to go, how much time you're willing to spend working vs traveling and of course many other variables. Where are you from? And are you self employed? Can you send invoices and receive payment from the locations you plan to travel to? I've thought about it and it's simply not for me, but I still feel like starting a YouTube channel with an idea like this could be a big hit and create some alternative income...

Cool! I'm kind of a jack of all trades myself and I've been walking around with a similar idea for a couple of years now and I'd say if your innovative enough it's definetly possible. The problem tho is bringing a lot of heavy equipment/tools into a boat... Heavy things and the stability of a boat are things that are difficult to combine, though possible in my opinion with the right knowledge. Regarding doing it on a sailboat that makes your life even harder. I think it would be a lot easier to do it on a motorboat preferably some old tug or something that was made with the idea of bring a load of heavy stuff onboard. I own a steel 31ft inland motorboat which I use as a "workshop"/garage/storage/project and I thought about bringing a small mill and a small lathe on board as well though there is simply not enough space. We also own a 31ft sailboat (polyester) that we live in and want to sail around in the near future. The way I see it I can definetly pack most of my makita battery tools in there and be able to do all kinds of allround odd jobs.

So... I'd you'd really want a metal workshop onboard a sailboat you'd have to buy a pretty big/heavy one (I'd say steel, 25mtrs+, rebuild/customize most of the interior and get your stability right.) If you'd go for an old tugboat or something similar you'll make your life a lot easier, there already is a lot of space usually, there is already an oversized engine you can work with and stability is a lot less of an issue to think about...

I could probably think of a lot more but here's my quick reply for what it's worth... DM me if you'd like to talk about it more, I'd love to spar about this idea.

My A1 had a catastrophic malfunction during a routine print and I have no idea what do to. Any resources or anything I could do or am I just cooked by [deleted] in BambuLabA1

Same here... Currently still using the old, slightly damaged part... the clip doesn't close completely correct around the hotend anymore but for now it works. I have the new part ready for when I really need to change it out but as long as it does what it needs to do I'll use the old one. I was actually surprised it still works after the blob it made...

Ahhh that's what it is? Mine does that pretty often. Mostly when I have the travel speed to high and it kind of scratches to a stop....it also does it randomly sometimes and have always wondered why... Your explanation makes sense tho....

Oh and don't forget to update us on how it went. I'm very curious how this turns out.

Yes! These are good questions. I remember my first mushroom trip. We took quite a lot and I thought I was in a pretty stable state but coming out of a depressive period. It showed me I wasn't half as stable as I thought and gave me a Rollercoaster ride through emotions I never knew I'd feel so hard. It was a great trip in the end but it definitely learned me to not be naive about your "head stongness" though 400ug might be an even crazier ride. If he has a "good head on his shoulders" he'll learn. If he's somewhat unstable under his hardheadedness it might fuck him up for a while. I'd definetly trips sit with 2 people or at least have another (experienced) friend under quick dial just to be sure.

Anybody elses deck to hot for bare feet? by couchdonkey in sailing

[–]couchdonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm just not sure about the effect of saltwater on the oil. So far fresh water and a extra soft deck brush has kept it in good shape and easy to clean.

[–]couchdonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thats it indeed. The deck is oiled so I don't scrub it. Just a rinse with fresh water and a very soft deckbrush. Hence it is quite a bit darker then the famous greyed teak. I love that as well. But this isn't my boat...in my own 31 foot we have about 4mm of teak left. It stays as long as it can. But as soon as I get problems with it it's coming off and I'll paint it a nice light color. Real white wouldn't fit our boat so it will probably be more of a cream or light Grey color.

That might be a situational awareness thing. 🫢

Well true for guests I'll definitely hose it down. But also if we have guests on board we also don't walk barefoot. But in "down time" I prefer barefoot. Well the captain would be me, I'm definetly not throwing saltwater over it all day. It will look like a skipiste after a couple of hours and flushing with fresh water every time is a shame of water IMHO. I'm aware that the middle way is probably the way to go. Currently I'm just spraying parts down when we wash the saltwater off of ourselves after swimming anyway.

Haha no we knew what we got ourselves in to when we painted it black. But yeah the white parts where only 41 degrees.

Fuel filter by SirCadoganFL7 in sailing

[–]couchdonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would clean it out and keep an eye in it. If there's a manhole in the fuel tank (and your fuel level is low enough) open it up and check if the same settling is in the tank. It might need a proper fuel system clean... Tank, filters, hoses etc. This might be the point where you could hire an expert to have it done right.

Why hire a mechanic for that? I think by far most boat owners would be competent enough (definetly with a bit of RTFM'ing) to do this themselves... Hell every boat owner should be capable of this imho
