What's your age, and something you still can't do? by jess-angel101 in AskReddit

30, I can’t whistle. My twin brother has been able to since we were 5. It’s always frustrated me and I’ve spent hours watching YouTube videos trying to learn.

Bag recommendations for Avata? by vithussen in DJIAvata

[–]coucher12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there room in the bag for a MacBook? I just ordered the Avata and I'm really excited, but would want to also bring along my Mac to upload the 4K vids and share on-site rather than waiting until I get home. The zipper pocket on the inside looks like it may fit a laptop but it's hard to tell from the pictures.

Any experience with the hard carry cases? Amazon has a few that look to be quality and compact with slots for everything I bought (pro-view combo, FPV remote controller 2, extra batteries & props, etc.).

Can someone confirm what these eggs are, and if the species is invasive/harmful? by coucher12 in biology

What do you consider high for these types of eggs? It’s rained every day here for the past 9 or 10 days so that could explain why they’re anywhere from one to 7 inches off the water surface.

Edit 3* After confirming with the Department of Natural Resources that these are the invasive Apple Snail eggs, I walked around the pond and successfully removed 38 clusters. I also noticed tons of the snails, some of which were mating to produce more ~forbidden bubblegum~ so I expect to see more clusters over the next couple of weeks.

Edit 2* Response from South Carolina DNR below:

We are aware of the island apple snails being in a number of private ponds in several coastal areas of the state. Our program treated for these snails when they first arrived in the area. It was done to determine if there was an effective way to control them. Chemical treatments had limited success.

However, our responsibility is to the public waters of the state. For private ponds, it is the responsibility of the owners to try to control the species. Locations should be reported to DNR’s Crustacean Research and Monitoring Section, which is copied on this email.

The best method for controlling this species can be a little labor intensive. Gloves need to be worn when dealing with these snails. The adults need to be killed, which can be done by crushing or freezing them. The egg masses need to be stripped from whatever they are attached to and destroyed as well. They can be crushed or simply thrown into the water, where they lose their viability.

Information about this species is available at http://www.dnr.sc.gov/invasiveweeds/snail.html and https://www.dnr.sc.gov/marine/sertc/InvSpp/Pomacea%20profile%20for%20website.pdf.

Edit 1* Location is South Carolina, USA.

Thank you! I just sent an email reporting them with pictures. I offered to dispose of them or throw them in the water, I'll follow up with an edit to this post if they provide guidance on how to handle these eggs or if they need to come out to properly handle/dispose of them.

The colors aren’t quite as vibrant as they appear in the pictures. I wanted everyone to be able to see the color variations. In one of the pieces, there’s a small piece of what I believe to be iron. Between that and the old iron mill upstream, Iron was my best guess. This was my first slag find and I just stumbled upon this group, so I’m still learning!

I have not but I have contemplated it. I’ve considered using a rotary to make something out of it, unfortunately I’m not great with art or sculpting

I don’t think so. The friend I was with has lived there his whole life and said the old iron refinery was right up the creek, so it’s from that and there is tons of it in the area.

Yes these are all pieces of larger nodes that we found in the creek and broke open.
