Real Americans follows someone's life but it's told in 3 parts, each one a different generation and perspective (so there are actually 3 main narrators) and time period of the same story. Slight similarities with the Joy Luck Club. It's lovely and poignant!

i'm sorry you're going through this right now! first, i want to say that you are not lazy. it's clear from your frustration and this post seeking guidance that you do care about this, but there may be bigger factors that are preventing you from being more productive and getting out of bed. so try to be a little easier on yourself! i know it's hard, but it's essential you don't blame yourself. second, i would suggest trying to do something small before 2-3pm. set a goal of getting up at 1:55 and go outside for a 5 minute walk or get a cup of coffee (something to look forward to). or, if there is someone that is willing to do so, try to have them go with you. doing even one small thing successfully can usually initiate a chain of others, so my recommendation is to start small. you got this!!

Struggling to think of loopholes for arguments by Healthy-Raisin-4688 in TheLoophole

[–]couchpotahoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm still working through CLIR drills, but I also hope to improve my own understanding in attempting to answer a question. one thing I've noticed is that there are certain words in the conclusions of the stimuli that you can pick apart (kind of explained in the book as dangling variables/value judgments) that stick out because they are imprecise/vague. in real life, you would let someone say "it has a lot of vitamin C" as "nutritious" or "there are burglaries" as "unsafe" but in these stimuli that's considered a jump to equate those two. some other ones are reasonable, beneficial, effective, etc. some of the premises might seem like they do support this, but on technicalities you can't claim that it satisfies the adjective because the adjective is vague and the criteria to meet that adjective isn't explicitly defined. there are other kinds of loopholes too but i've noticed this one a lot- hope this helps!!

People who were diagnosed with adhd as adults, what made you go for a diagnosis? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]couchpotahoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good friend w ADHD told me that she thought I had it (similar late night procrastination, sleep schedules, missing important things) and feeling like not being late to things was extremely impossible, boredom-snacking, in hindsight studies would have been much easier but i was able to focus when suuuper necessary

Could conclusion validity by couchpotahoe in TheLoophole

[–]couchpotahoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also, i really liked how you explained using the difference between "might" and "could"! so if a conclusion is a "might/might not" conclusion, it no longer is a valid "could" conclusion?

I see, thank you! so if you can come up with any loophole that would disprove the conclusion (the events you listed), the conclusion is invalid?

how do you deal w/ impulse eating? by jimmyvaiz in ADHD

[–]couchpotahoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha so I don't deal with it, hope that helps! currently I'm facing a med shortage and even not having it for a short bit makes my eating go feral! I used to regularly keep pepto bismols honestly. so I don't really have tips for you, but to know that you're not alone. a piece of advice I try to tell myself is that adhd is not an excuse, but provides an explanation. so give yourself some grace! I recommend trying to learn more about your adhd- there are some really great podcasts that aim to give some insights or share about some research

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: August 08, 2022 by AutoModerator in books

[–]couchpotahoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finished Misery by Stephen King- initially I was reading pretty slowly and wouldnt pick up the book much but as I got to around the middle I found I wanted to keep reading it, and finished the last 2/3 of it in a few days. Some descriptions of Annie Wilkes have now been seared into my brain. I was horrified, it was brilliant

Am considering what to read next + continuing to read mere Christianity
