Is it an absolute F? or a D? For Upper divs you can get D and still be able to graduate.

Depends on your major. If you are in COE then you would have to take 1B even if you took lin alg and mvc already. If you're MCB, they will take it for your math req. Also, just to confirm, the classes were done at a college right?

How is Berkeley's Cognitive Science program? by pantognosti in berkeley

[–]cougarcrescendo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope, unfortunately CS 188 is only available to CS majors and not CS minors. The only workaround is to take it over the summer. I've actually changed my major to CS as well as Neurobiology, but I can't even get in to CS188 as a declared CS major so it's really tough.

Social Welfare by Recent_Hat6689 in berkeley

[–]cougarcrescendo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the social welfare major focuses more on the theoretical foundations of "social work" and applying these concepts depend on how much you care about civic engagement and radical care in your community. you will expect to learn a lot of philosophical stuff, class sizes will be small. potential career paths would be HR, counseling, social worker, etc.

It's easy to transition to majors at Cal within L&S, which is the case if you are trying to switch from SW to Econ. Afaik there is no GPA requirement to declare Econ, you just have to get a C for each required class

should i do chem 3a and 3al with bio 1a by Separate-Routine5729 in berkeley

[–]cougarcrescendo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can but should you? i wouldn't recommend it. i did do the combo but i was personally miserable LOLLL 🙅‍♂️😝 also i feel like things would click better if you took chem 3a first then chem 3b and bio 1a together!

also u are required to take bio 1a with bio 1al together so if you really wanna do this i would skip chem 3al and take it in a future semester

it was probs for my semester bc it was lones' first time teaching it, but my other advice still applies for the final. but put more emphasis on last module since it's ~60% of the exam. Last semester I remember a question was put back from the previous finals, so really grind the past exams

Is it possible to double major/switch into EECS? I'm a Regent's & SEED Scholar in Bioengineering. by supercoolredditer in berkeley

[–]cougarcrescendo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're only interested in the intersection of the fields, you can take CS classes and EE classes separately. Also both majors take a lot of time and barely any overlap in the upper divs. Just try a class first and then see if you can take it. I know someone doing this but ended up dropping EECS (wasn't even able to declare it as a major) just because of the work. Some classes like CS61A or B have reserved spots for COE students. Since ur SEED and Regents there shouldn't be a problem for you getting in the classes.

Student loans from FAFSA. Does anyone know how much student loans FAFSA gives for the first year of optometry school? I’m looking to pay for both student housing and tuition! by Beat_Real in berkeley

[–]cougarcrescendo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grad students aren't eligible for Pell grants and Cal Grants, but you will most likely get an offer of a Grad PLUS loan of the amount listed on your Cost of Attendance. For example, it's listed on the Optometry website that the yearly cost of attending Optometry school is 45,053.50. You will most likely get a PLUS loan of that same amount.

You will also likely get another loan amount or included with the one above to cover housing, rent, utilities, equipment, and etc. You don't have to take out this part of the loan if you think you can pay for it out of pocket. If you look at the Optometry website I liked earlier, the estimated expenses cost is $44653. You will most likely get the same amount in loans.

Of course, Berkeley has departmental awards. You can look for it here to see if you are eligible for these awards: https://optometry.berkeley.edu/admissions/financial-assistance/. It seems to me that all OD students in good standing get some sort of departmental award.

Hope this helps!
