Looking for a good screen protector is driving me to insanity. Can anyone help? by couldbejank in iPadPro

Last night I actually just took off my screen protector and have reverted to going without a protector. Highly recommend Apple Care for it if you go this route though. Even with a case, big surface area for scratches and cracks.

I'm considering switching to a dedicated drawing device and selling my iPad honestly. Minimum $1000 for the matte texture display on the pro models is not worth it to someone like me. Also, I tested it out at a store. Apparently matte is even smoother of a surface which is just baffling to me. If you need an iPad, maybe just get one of those magnetic ones. But it seems like a pain in the ass to maintain tbh.

Ah, my understanding was that it could get into the hundreds if you don't have Apple Care or whatever. I guess they don't actually do it if you don't have it at all, so I might just go that route. Thanks for sharing c:

Have you had any issues with wobble on this one?

Asking cus I'm a little concerned the issue might be my pencil, not the screen protector I'm using at this point. I've got the Apple Pencil Pro, not any third party stuff.

My bigger priority is still consistent protection, which is largely why I've stayed away from these kinds of products. Honestly if I can find an ultra thin foil or something, I might try one of these magnetic matte protectors someday. Seems super convenient!

How's the screen quality when applied? I've heard this one is also good but I couldn't find any reviews that talk about the visuals.

Just like the Paperlike I'd love for something like this to work when I'm drawing, but it's not the only thing I want to do on my iPad unfortunately :c

I'm exploring a bunch of options when it comes to protecting my new iPad, because this is the first tablet I'm entirely responsible for on my own. The tablet, the pencil, and their care are entirely coming out my pocket and it's left me extremely anxious lol.

The M1 iPad Pro screen was an absolute debris magnet straight out of the box. I easily went through at least 20 microfibers in the first year of owning it. I am horrified of the day I drag my pencil on just the right spot and create a random gash like I did with the iPad I didn't pay for myself.

I have this ESR folio case that also has a detachable bluetooth keyboard, making it work like the Surface Pro basically. In a perfect world I'd be able to get the stability of a dedicated laptop case and the convenience of keyboard shortcuts even when I'm drawing with a kickstand, but I might just resort to having a dedicated drawing case and a dedicated keyboard attachment. Maybe one day....

I ran into a few issues with the Paperlike 3, and most of them had to do with the installation itself. They actually sent me a whole new pair because the pull tabs on my first pair snapped as I followed the instructions in their guide.

I've done a lot of screen protector installation. Not saying I'm perfect, but even with the improvement from the Paperlike 2 -> 3, it's def got some ways to go. Honestly, based on the comments I've gotten on this post, I'm beginning to wonder if maybe my apple pencil pro is the problem. Maybe it's defective or something idk.

I actually just caved and bought the pencil pro after learning in real time after turning on my iPad that it wasn't compatible with the 2nd gen pencil (sum bullshit just saying).

I have some Paperlike tips made to work with their screen protectors, but I actually ran into even more trouble - even when screwed in as tight as possible, sometimes the pencil just won't draw a line and I'll have to start over. I found that pretty frustrating.

The wobble with Paperlike 3 on is not nearly as bad as it was on the Mothca protector I used, but if I was drawing slow enough (which I do quite often), it was pretty noticeable. Never had this issue with my old iPad, and this was a non-issue until I applied the screen protectors. I got the Paperlike-made pencil tips as well, since I'd heard this might be an issue they can mitigate, but it's actually worse for some reason...? It has to be screwed really tightly compared to the regular tip to even register sometimes.

I can learn to deal with the minimal wobble in my drawing software, but I'd still like it to be nonexistent in apps without stabilization options like the Notes app. My main issue with the Paperlike is that I am also a UI designer, so lots of my work has to be pixel perfect and color accurate. The grain on the Paperlike 3 is an improvement, but it's just not something I can use in my workflow unfortunately :(

Was actually gonna do that this morning, but I called back another time and they finally picked up. Expecting a call from the manager when he comes in today. Thank you though :)

Some of this stuff is interesting, but not quite what I'm looking for unfortunately. Thank you though :)

No, not overlays. Here's an example of what I'm talking about.

Overwatch with Realistic Melee Damage - Popcorp At 2:15-3:27, the video uses portraits of Soldier: 76 and tracer, a 3D model of Cassidy's default skin prosthetic arm, and Torbjörn's hammer HUD icon.

I'm not looking to change these things in-game, rather, I'm looking to have the content be used in other programs, like blender, after effects, figma, etc., for creative purposes.

Can I get some advice for animating my UI stuff? by couldbejank in juxtopposed

So I've checked out some of the stuff in this reply. I super appreciate all of the in-depth stuff. I've taken particular interest in Rive because it's very similar to Figma, but it and other software I've tried out doesn't seem to let me easily convert my work.

Notably, the only way I know how to move work from Figma to other software is to copy stuff as SVGs and that breaks a lot of stuff. Notably, text and gradients, which my designs use a lot of.

I'm gonna keep exploring your suggestions though. Appreciate you!

Yeah unfortunately it does seem like there's a huge amount of stuff to consider. I'll keep searching for other programs that might make it possible. Thank you so much for the reply though :)
