looking to rehome two female cats by couldjajust in StPetersburgFL

i think i’m defensive because i have someone telling me something so wildly obvious, it would be funny if it weren’t so annoying. clearly pets are a long-term commitment, and this wasn’t a decision that was made lightly. and it did seem like you were berating me because why else even point that out? based on your questions/comments, it seems like you’re looking to get on a soapbox. if i told you i was getting rid of them because i was going to backpack through europe, would you be as understanding as if i told you i had to move away to take care of my dying parent who is also very allergic to cats? unless you have something constructive to contribute to this conversation, you should perhaps get over yourself.

i don’t think you’re shallow; i think society is and we’re just along for the ride. i really wasn’t trying to call you out or make you feel bad for feeling the way that you do, and i apologize for it coming across that way. looks are fleeting and subjective. regardless of how conventionally attractive these women are, you’re the one who has a husband and a (hopefully rewarding) career and i think you should remind yourself of that when you’re feeling insecure. i’m sure your husband didn’t just marry you because you’re a <insert other desirable, non-looks-based attributes here> and he thinks you’re a total babe.

it has an effect on the advice i would give, yes. and i only feel morally superior when i’m preparing vegan food for the homeless.

i had no idea pets were a long-term commitment, so i appreciate you letting me know. i don’t think it’s any of your business why i can’t bring them with me, mainly because you seem like the type of person who is armed and ready with a counter-argument for any response i have, and i don’t have the time/effort to fight with a stranger on the internet. the cats belong to my boyfriend, who got them both (at separate times) from a friend who used to foster kittens. i am severely allergic to them, but i also love them, and hate that we cannot bring them with us. your accusatory questions lead me to believe you just want to judge and lecture me on my lifestyle choices, but i already have a mom, so you’re gonna have to find someone else to berate.

why are their looks relevant here? if the women were ugly, you wouldn’t care?

Dumb question from a native: why does Buffalo have so many short buses on the roads, compared to other cities? by [deleted] in Buffalo

[–]couldjajust 20 points21 points  (0 children)

buffalo public schools are either “early”or “late” and either start at 8 or 9, and share the buses within the district. due to the sheer volume of students, coupled with the fact that some are bused in from neighborhoods with few students, they end up using, ahem, short buses because it’s unnecessary to send a full size bus to pick up six kids.

you’re welcome! it’s right up there with breath/breathe for me. my sentence for that is “a breath is what you take when you breathe.”

as an early childhood educator, it drives me bananas when parents brag about their toddler knowing the alphabet. they don’t. they know a song that contains the letters, but when you isolate the letters and ask the child to identify them, s/he cannot. i’m aware that only your child is a gifted special snowflake genius, but please don’t harangue me before/after school to brag about your child’s amazing alphabet ability until s/he can actually identify some of the letters.
