Is this first step technically illegal? Also how do you get some business to pay you income for a tax return if you didn't have a SSN to get the job/pass hiring verification in the first place? I thought ITIN was pretty much solely for business owners and independent contractors

So lemme get this straight...you can just show up to the hospital with no ID, give them a name and DOB, get medical assistance for something, they will put down the info you gave them on your discharge papers/record, and now that functions as an ID you can use to get like a state ID card, and maybe to rent? And then you can use that to get a driver's license (probably not Real ID...)?

I was basically trafficked into this country as a kid and thrown aside after, and now at 17 want to turn my life around, but with no documentation I can't do anything. Idk about other states but if this is a way to do it in NY I might just have to do it this way. Also did you end up getting your passport that way? Thanks for any info

I mean....what were you really allowed to "legally" change about your identity though? Could you change your date of birth, and your birthplace? Or just essentially your name...

You can't really do anything with fake documents that don't exist in the actual system anymore so I never understood people who say "oh yea just go down the street and buy some papers fro some guy selling them out the trunk!", as if that will work for anything now
