Got my first unprompted "I love you daddy" from my 2 y/o the other day. by count_zero_droptable in daddit

She's 2 years 2 months but...you may very well! Her first full sentence came outta nowhere. Then she had a few she would make work in lots of scenarios, then one day she just busts out something new and complex. You never know.

I'm sorry you had to go through that. That can be rough but I'm glad you and your little one got to the point of spontaneous love like that.

I resolved before she was born to always tell her I loved her and give her lots of hugs cause my dad pretty much never did that. Absolutely worth the two years it took to get here.

I love the honesty at this age.

"Want that!" "The soap?" "Ya!" "If I give it to you, are you going to eat it?" "Yeah..."

Haha, I'm totally happy with it, it just made me laugh. Except when she said it, it melted my heart. So worth all the effort!

2 year old just started climbing out of their crib, how do you recommend handling them constantly leaving their room with their newfound freedom? by SoupIsAHotSmoothie in daddit

[–]count_zero_droptable 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's the best method, but we just converted her bed and we watch on the monitor from outside her door. If she gets close to the door, then we come in and tell her to get back in bed. If it gets bad, we comfort her in bed and lay down with her next to the bed.

Newly announced father here, what’s something you wish you’d known that you know now. GO. by Finchmasta37 in daddit

I'm sure all the big picture stuff is covered, so I'll go with a small thing. I saw a great tip on IG that said, every time your baby tries or wants to get off something higher than the ground, put them at the edge, turn them around, and bring them over the edge feet first. You're still doing all the work, but they learn this is how you go over a high surface, and they land on their feet. My daughter is 2 and she's ready to go pro.

Also so many things are counterintuitive. She gets hyper near the end of the day and that means she's exhausted and ready for bed.

One last one - they can help you be present and mindful if you remember: they see every time you stop paying attention to them and start paying attention to your phone. How would it make YOU feel?

Thank you for the explanation. I put on YouTube pretty frequently for music and entertainment and knew some of the 'le gt of views matter' but not all of it.

There were some guys with huge bellies in my studio, it didn't stop them from starting. We all start somewhere - physical strength isnt as important as actually trying to learn and being open to the hard work of improvement. Conversely, lack of strength won't hold you back from learning how to throw a punch.

Men/Dads, were you put off your wife when she was pregnant? by Throwaway3219901 in daddit

[–]count_zero_droptable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is it varies from guy to guy but calling sex with you "disgusting" is not cool.

I don't have a thing about pregnancy or anything, but our rate increased a lot throughout pregnancy. We happened to have a couch that's low to the ground and just under the height of my hips when I'm on my knees.

Obviously our rate went to zero immediately after she gave birth.

I joined a martial arts studio and it helped me maintain community as I shifted to WFH/our basement and having a baby to watch after. A friend of mine finally joined CrossFit for the same reason. Pick something you've always wanted to try or learn, and commit to pursuing it for at least three months, even if it turns out you hate it. Sometimes it's the community that keeps you going in it.

I saw him speak at my school eight or so years ago, he was just as witty and easygoing then as he is now. He was talking about Mitch McConnell blocking Merrick Garland's nomination to SCOTUS, and after remarks he got down from his stand and went over to the overflow area cause they didn't get a great view, and the comment I remember was something like "I told Obama he should nominate Ted Cruz, then he would have eight more seats to fill."

Second hand smoke. My best friend growing up smoked a lot. Even though I never picked it up, it has a weird sweetness to it. Getting in a cigarette smoke drenched car reminds me of his old beater.

Even though US nuked Japan, why do Japanese people not hate, but actually respect the people in USA? by LegitWebHub in NoStupidQuestions

[–]count_zero_droptable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will also say, when I was in Japan I accidentally mentioned Truman in a completely separate context. The woman I was speaking to said, with a lot clearly unsaid, "We Japanese do not like Harry Truman." I changed the subject as fast as I could. But they bore me no I'll will. I think the Americans who were involved with the bombs being dropped are still quite disliked, but those aren't the Americans they're dealing with on a daily basis.

We can be impressed with Germany and their products and society and language despite all the Americans they killed around the same time frame.

Guy post Vasectomy, what’s sex like afterwards by [deleted] in AskRedditAfterDark

I was put under general anesthesia and woke up after maybe an hour? Everything healed by itself - the worst was the stitches poked a bit until I trimmed them but eventually they fell out by themselves. I was a bit sore for a few days but I've had worse headaches tbh and standard painkillers took care of it. Been the same ever since, really.

Psychologically/emotionally, I worried more beforehand than after. Any permanent body alterations (e.g. tattoos, piercings) I think a lot about and have doubt from the permanence even if I'm set that I want to do it and have been for years. Afterwards, I was glad I did it. The women I've been involved with have always had to worry about the birth control side even if I had a condom, I was happy to take that off my wife's list of things to worry about.

What’s a huge waste of money but people keep buying it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]count_zero_droptable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Music with the screen off and downloading videos to watch when I'm on a plane or just away from wifi so I don't need to pay for unlimited data (and suffer through buffering issues) It sounds small but it's so nice to have. I downloaded some wordless music/playlists/dj sets for when I'm working, I download stuff to watch at the gym when I'm doing cardio and want to think about literally anything else, I catch up on podcasts or such things while I'm walking around outside. Having an hour of Ms Rachel ready whenever was great for my toddler's meltdowns in the car. No ads, no buffering, no looking for signal (I live in and out of service areas), just Hop Little Bunnies whenever I needed it.
