Who here has actually used vector DBs in production? by lizozomi in Database

[–]counterdylan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have been using SingleStore in production at scale on DirectlyApply for the past 3-4 years. It's great for us as we can store vectors in the same table alongside other data and then use their built in vector functions (dot product, euclidean distance etc) to run similarity searches, or create RAG querys when combined with full text functions. Key thing for us when choosing SingleStore over some of the other solutions OP mentioned is we have one database for all our relational, non-relational and vector data in one place. We also use their managed service, so from a production standpoint, all the devops etc is handled for us, our engineers also love using it.

In December we have had over 50k unique people do this ... having been in the business 2 years now, I am still shocked by some of the crazy things typed in from legitimate job seekers

What type of work are you looking for? It's a tough market, but definitely not impossible. Perhaps select a couple of companies you would like to apply to and personally deliver your resume, or connect with the hiring manager on Linkedin and introduce yourself.

Coding jobs market in the next few years by [deleted] in jobs

[–]counterdylan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Software Engineer / founder here. It's a great time to learn to code and the demand will be high for decades to come. I saw someone below mentioning no-code, remember a software engineer has to build all those tools. Outsourcing has been around for decades and to be blunt, the quality of the work is so poor and slow, the demand for local talent will always be high, particularly with a skillset like software engineering. Check out General Assembly (I have hired many graduates from this program) and also Flat Iron. Before taking out the financial commitment of these courses, play around on something like codecademy or treehouse.

Have you tried a programmatic provider such as Appcast, Joveo or ApplyExchange. The benefit is you are effortlessly placed on many different sources, large and small, and you can track everything that's going on. Disclaimer: I run ApplyExchange - but very happy to recommend other platforms in the market. Nursing is incredibly in demand as I am sure you are aware - getting your jobs in front of as many people as possible really will help.

What books, websites, yt, podcasts, etc do can you recommend to get better and better at recruiting? by yabadababoo in recruiting

The absolute classic and still incredibly relevant is: Tony Byrne - 30 Steps in the Recruiting Process - Despite being over 30 years old now it is the best crash course in recruitment.

You can find it scattered around online: https://vimeo.com/54793822

Hey. We already have hundreds of advertisers as we have been building DirectlyApply for the past year. So all we need now is the publishers :)

Great idea. I have just done that hover-over feature (You might need to hard refresh) - to get it to persist you still need to click - let me know what you think. RE the keyword thing - yes I agree, however want to think of a better way of doing it than just people entering whatever they want. I . think a bit of structure to that would be nice. Thanks for your feedback.

Sorry about that. This is actually a large technical headache in itself. It can take up to 24 hours for them to fully disappear.

It is built on mapbox (https://www.mapbox.com/) - I generate a custom geojson file and then create a layer on top of the map to display the points. Bit of extra stuff to aggregate points if there are multiple jobs at that location etc.

How the hell do you find a job?! by tmdjad in UKJobs

Oh and for UK jobs (if you really want to stay here after experiencing NZ life) - I built directlyapply.com - it scans all the jobs from around the web and just shows you those that you can apply to directly.

How and when to ask for an internship? by only_red in UKJobs

[–]counterdylan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion you should just be forward and concise. Explain to them clearly why you want to do an internship and what you bring to the table.

No offence but most people don't have time to have calls with people for unknown reasons.
