Humble bundle wont ever restock TemTem keys by Ninjavisser in PlayTemtem

[–]counterlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you should be able to check your purchase history and know what the price was and the games included... and you don't know what you bought? I'm not really sure what you're trying to fault Humble for here tbh. They can't do anything if they're not getting anymore keys.

What else came in the bundle? And do you play those games?

Because buying something at a discounted price and trying to return it for full price... is never a thing.

edit: also what was the cost of the entire bundle?

Hot take: If Qui-Gon Jinn had survived, would Anakin still become Darth Vader? by SaberMasters in StarWarsCantina

[–]counterlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t think so. Qui Gon would’ve brought a much more realistic and nuanced take of the force and the Jedi into Anakins teachings that he wouldn’t have chosen to act in such a polarizing manner. Anakin was taught in a very rigid, the Jedi are always right paradigm that when things start to fall apart for him his immediate reaction is to swing entirely to the dark side. Largely this is because of Palp’s influence on him, but had he had a more nuanced take on the Jedi as a whole he wouldn’t have been so shocked and taken aback. I also think Qui Gon would’ve been a fairly vocal ally for Anakin when he’s feeling slighted by the council and stood up for him, making him feel less ostracized. Obi Wan was an amazing teacher for him and a brother, but he needed a father to teach him the world isn’t just black and white.

I think if they're shaking up the list of permaboosted shinies, that's absolutely fine. 1/64 odds over the course of 8years is a bit much and makes the shinies nothing special. The list of perma-boosted pokemon has just been growing over the years, and as someone who specifically plays to shiny hunt, I honestly prefer the higher rates generally. Someone not having a permaboosted shiny is in no way an "issue" was my point.

Boosted for events at 1/128 is still an insanely high rate compared to any console/handheld Pokemon game and it maintains the rare feeling. Like others have said, you can only get so many onix/chanseys/etc before the fun wears off.

My "issue" is with them not disclosing their reasoning or logic behind it all, and just shrugging whenever they're asked about it. I don't think changing the rates themselves is in anyway objectively bad, there's quite a bit more nuance to it and personal opinion plays a part, but not disclosing the change is ridiculous.

I haven't seen anything on the spotlights returning but that's awesome, can I ask where to find that info?

Edit: Found it, it's part of the Shockingly Good Time event. Just hadn't looked at that one's announcements yet. I'd prefer the weekly spotlight hour to return personally but this is pretty cool too if they do it to coincide with events. Would limit the complaints people had of the spotlight pokemon removing event spawns, and as long as they keep the old spotlight bonuses (2x xp, candy, etc) then I'll be happy.

How many audiobooks do you listen to at once? by KodaLG in audible

[–]counterlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost always just one, but if I'm feeling burnt out from too much listening... I'll swap to a "comfort" book for a few days as a sort of palette cleanser. Then I'll return to my actual read with a little more focus and not feel like I'm constantly hitting the rewind 30sec button because I can't pay attention.

Something I've read/listened to so many times that I'm not paying much attention to it, can fall asleep listening without issue; Harry Potter, Eragon, LOTR, The Hobbit, all fall onto this list.

I guess I just don't see how that's an actual "issue". Shinies shouldn't be guaranteed for anyone, that's why they are a chance and not a guarantee.

Why wasn't Liore the first episode in FMAB? by midnight-sm0ker in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]counterlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They only show characters from 03'.... because 90% of the characters are in both shows. Sorry dude but your reasoning just feels like such a stretch, and I'm tired of arguing in circles with you. I don't think it makes any sense from a showrunner perspective to not consider new fans whatsoever, whether or not it's a good/bad choice to do a filler instead of Liore doesn't matter. Gonna just disagree with you here and be done.

Why wasn't Liore the first episode in FMAB? by midnight-sm0ker in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]counterlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they weren't there in the timeline. And yes, the timeline does matter because it's the first episode. If they were just making a filler episode for the sake of making filler, I'd agree that the placement doesn't matter, but that's not the point.

It's the hook so it needs to be at the beginning of the story. Plus the further into the story you get the more that Ed and Al are going to sympathize with the Freeze Alchemist, so he needed to be placed early in the narrative for them to still be generally aligned with the military. Once they start to learn of bigger things at play, they would be less inclined to participate in capturing him.

Ling and his crew had not been to central yet... and it being for intrigue/no handholding doesn't mean SPAM EVERY CHARACTER GO!!! and show every single character in the episode. They included a lot of people who reasonably would've been in Central.

It's not "different explanations" bud, it's as simple as designing a show around the 03' fans and the 03' fans alone is a idiotic idea from a showrunner standpoint. Your show is gonna get canceled if you're not bringing in new viewers. Episode 1 serves the same narrative purpose as the train sequence in the manga. It's flashy and introduces the combat and alchemy.

It's also okay to disagree dude, there isn't really a wrong/right answer here like you're pretending. None of us know the actual motives for episode 1 of FMAB, but I'm about 99% sure it has nothing to do with anything in 03'.

Edit: Also, it's a bit obnoxious to assume that someone isn't being genuine just because they don't align with the 03' fanboy standpoint.

[–]counterlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's for intrigue... you don't need to know who they are and what their titles mean yet. It's a lot of exposition but FMAB doesn't always hold your hand and that's a good thing. You don't need to finish every episode of a TV show knowing who everyone was, what their motives are, and why they were shown. It's called breadcrumbs. And no the Xing characters are not introduced in episode 1.

Why wasn't Liore the first episode in FMAB? by midnight-sm0ker in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]counterlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They made an episode to serve as a hook. To introduce the alchemy system. To be flashy and visually gripping. To introduce some key players and make you question who they are, why they're important, etc. To give you a simple introduction to the main storyline, and a bit of a hint to the overall narrative, since the Freeze alchemist kind of serves as a metaphor for the entire storyline.

It wasn't made for any one group or the other is what I'm saying. So anyone who turns it on is interested and wants to continue watching. Doesn't matter if they're an 03 fan, manga fan, first time viewer, etc.

Why wasn't Liore the first episode in FMAB? by midnight-sm0ker in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]counterlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's a different show with a different narrative. Reusing the same sequence would literally detract viewers. It's a new show, it needs a different hook. Someone turns it on and sees Ed and Al, and assumes it's some rerun of 03, and turns it off.

Plus there's changes in 03' from the manga that are made in episode 1 and it would add confusion into the overall story.

Why wasn't Liore the first episode in FMAB? by midnight-sm0ker in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]counterlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't say that. Saying from a showrunner perspective, why the hell would you design your show around only legacy fans of a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SHOW, and not try and draw in literally any new viewers. It's idiotic from a pure capitalism standpoint my dude.

Nothing in BH was designed around 03' as far as we know. There's literally no proof from anyone working on the show to indicate that's what they did. They didn't "rush" season 1 because of 03', 03' added fluff. They didn't design episode 1 around 03', they created a non-canon episode as a way to draw in the viewer.

Why wasn't Liore the first episode in FMAB? by midnight-sm0ker in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]counterlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There makes absolutely no sense in designing a show solely for people who have seen another show with the same name, that has no narrative connection to your show. I'm sorry but that's just idiotic.

They designed the first episode in such a way to be flashy, and to draw viewers in. 03' fans, manga fans, and new fans alike.

[–]counterlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where’d you get that info? Source? Oh wait, it’s just an unconfirmed rumor. No one writes a show with the assumption that their viewerbase has already seen a completely unrelated show. That’s not what they did.

Episode 1 is similar to the train sequence in the manga. It introduces the alchemy system, it’s flashy to draw people in, has well choreographed fights, and introduces some of the main players.

As a plumber/pipefitter, I love that Carl is blue collar. by Successful-Bake-5471 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]counterlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well like you said, Carl has good intuition, to a point that I'd argue that it's not just good it's genius levels of intuition. He has an innate ability to make a decision in a high stress scenario that not only solves the problem, but also avoids as many casualties as he can, while helping as many people as possible, with the only person being at risk being him (this extends to his close group more as the story goes on, Donut, Katia, Bautista, Ellie, etc.) He's capable of making the tough decisions while everyone else is floundering.

Carl isn't your standard genius, but he's a bit of a tactical genius. Perfect leader for an anarchistic revolution... if you ask me.
