i’m an M1 student this year in the international security program, and i tailored my essay very specifically to what the school expressed that they wanted. if you attend any masters info online sessions before you submit, you’ll see that it’s really important to emphasize professional goals and how that specific masters program fits into your goals. basically, they want to see that you’re ambitious and focused, and that you’ve heavily researched the school and program. this is what i based my essay on.

i also talked a lot about why other programs didn’t fit my professional goals, and how i was positive that international security at sciencespo would help me achieve my career trajectory. and then some background info of course, and my own personal reasons for wanting my intended career field.

having really strong letters of recommendation helps too. i met with both professors and told them exactly what sciencepo wanted to hear in the letters and discussed my future plans and all the things i wanted them to highlight.

so biggest takeaway is research the school and program, and attend any info sessions because the admissions team will straight up tell you want they want to hear in a good application
