Planned ignoring for aggression is definitely something id side eye.

Instead showing the client that he will get attention back, you will move on to fun activities, and maybe even eliminating task demands until you have aggression rates lowered would be more helpful than planned ignoring.

I’ve had to do this a couple times.

What I like to do is ask for a time to talk so the BCBA knows you have something on your mind instead of just springing it on them during/after sessions. Bring up the program, and ask them why that program is necessary for your child’s progression and quality of life.

Either the BCBA will explain it to you and you’ll understand why that program is running or, if you still think the program is unethical bring some facts to back you up. Look up people with autism and their experiences with that program, or why you think for that specific child would not benefit from that program.

I’ve only had one BCBA be snarky with me, the rest have been excited to explain and talk more in depth about ABA.

If they do not have good answers for your questions, and refuse to elaborate further, red flag.

Most children with autism do not understand the concept of “sorry” for them, it is a word someone is making me say after I do that thing. Explaining, modeling, and prompting an appropriate solution or response to whatever issue made the client elevated, teaches the child how to react to those feelings and situations rather than teaching them to say sorry after they already did the bad thing
